contradictory lines/hexagrams 8 <53

hello!!

i was asking to IC what can i wait from him towards our relation and i got
hex 8 3,6 > 53. Such an answer!!! Both hexagrams are quite positive, but the changing lines are completely and clearly the oppositte!

i don t know how to get it.. as a positive or negative! i ve got no idea!!

what do u think about it??

Well if you take the XOR aspect of your lines (I'll explain this again, cuz it's really simple, just put a yang in each place where there's a change, and all the rest are yin) then it creates 52. Keeping Still. So what you got with the changing lines was this:

You hold together with the wrong people.

He finds no head for holding together.
Misfortune.

And the key advice of 52 (going by The Image) is:

Thus the superior man
Does not permit his thoughts
To go beyond his situation.

Keep grounded, and do not worry or make harsh moves or judgments (as is reinforced in line 6). Holding with the wrong people, this could merely mean, don't be swayed away from him, maybe. Or it could be literal. Only you know which is more likely.

But Holding Together > Keeping Still > Development, preaches a sort of "action through inaction" way of being. Don't be discouraged if things don't go entirely your way, and remain grounded. Through this you remain calm and the outer will give way, possibly.

Usually I take 8.3 to mean "He's not the man for you." It seems to be a direct condemnation. It means that for whatever reason you cannot rely on such a person the way we all need people to rely upon. Where does this other interpretation -- 'Don't be swayed away from him' -- come from? Could you please elaborate on this, mryou1? I am extremely interested in this. The two interpretations would appear to be opposites.

It only says "you hold together with the wrong people" in most translations. If you're holding together with someone else, or with people who disapprove, you could see how "Don't be swayed away from him" applies.

But this is why I rarely dwell on the lines, personally. I find them a bit too vague, and ultimately, that they tend to sway you away from focusing on the hexagrams as a whole. They are certainly worth reading, but I've had more success working straight from the hexagrams, or the trigram arrangements. But to each their own, of course.

the rule of lines are really confusing me ... many times i find like the lines are in opposittion with the hexagrams. In this case 8 is the seekeing of union, then 53 the progress closely related to a couple.
i dont know how can i understand...
i recognized that the question was already a bit tricki "what can i wait from him" ,
so i had a weird response... that is also against my feelings... maybe i just under a potential charming, he really likes me and in trust him

about lines and hexagrams, there's who thinks that the lines shows if the hexagram is going in his positive or negative meaning... for example, in this case, the lines will show why the union is not working ... but then the 53 ?? i dont understand....

Anyway, i asked about my correct behaviuor and i got 11,5 >5

and then i asked about the evolution of our relation 20 4, 5 > 35

could you help me to clarify the answers??

The 53 is your relating hexagram and it probably shows your WISH for a traditional relationship or a long engagement that leads to marriage. The relating hexagram shows your relationship to the question you asked ... not the result, in most cases.

11.5 is said to indicate an auspicious marriage. The emperor marries off his daughter to a man from another country and even though their customs are different, such a marriage is fortunate in many ways, despite all obstacles.

Because of the 8.3, however, I would say you need to know other people besides this man, have a community or network of other people, because in some ways he will not be reliable. Maybe he is immature compared to you.

Whenever we get 20.4, the I Ching is asking us to find out for ourselves, by getting more involved and investigating that question by ourselves.
