I finally had the courage to directly ask the I Ching what the effects on my life were by my weed use, and I received Hexagram 59 Dispersion

*it speaks to be joyful and to sharing that joy impartially, therefore success

Judgement: dispersal is successful. Strength comes and is not exhausted. Outward flexibility.
Wind over water creates waves without exertion

with the fourth (dispersing is auspicious and therefore there is assembly inconceivable to the ordinary)
and fifth changing line (scattering sweat, the great call scatters, the kind abides, no fault

*The Army is my outcome hexagram. Water below, earth above
I must lead my army of inner inferiors with inner strength and humility. My changes of success are greatened by how i conduct myself

I think i was hoping for a value judgement from the I Ching. Instead i believe i am being counseled to disperse joy and tame my inner army. It doesnt seem to matter as long as i am joyful and contributing positively in my community as well as taming whatever it is in my that i believe calles me away from the highest good.

I may not have the nail on the head with this one- what do you guys think?

59.4.5 changes to 64 not 7.

So I'm not sure what you cast.

If you did cast 59>7 there's an old blog on it here

...but if you cast 59.4.5>64 well that's different

If you had cast 59.5.6>7 I would have said what it looks like is, as we know, weed is okay until you need to get somewhere/have a goal (7) you're just too dispersed (59) to do that kind of thing but music and food and art...you know what I mean is easier.

with the fourth (dispersing is auspicious and therefore there is assembly inconceivable to the ordinary)
and fifth changing line (scattering sweat, the great call scatters, the kind abides, no fault
You asked about the effect of weed on your life and I do find 59 quite fitting because what happens to attention with weed is it diffuses, it's harder to stay focused on a particular thought, thoughts tend to 'bleed into' one another more like very wet watercolour painting. So this is interesting or enjoyable for some things like, you know, where it is okay for your mind to diffuse, relaxing, music, chatting etc etc but it's hopeless for when you really need to be doing 60, when you need to discern boundaries, retain information, have a clear line about what is you and what is not you.

Line 4 is to do with trying a way of seeing from a different vantage point, away from the crowd. I wonder if you might be using it sort of in place of the solitude you need to get outside of the world you live in to get a view of it. Or maybe it kind of give you that elevation to the 'high mound' in line 4 where you are set apart from the world below.

Line 5 offers everything up, perhaps this liberates aspects of yourself you wouldn't otherwise find it easy to access ?

I think the 64 points to this as about process, I wonder if smoking weed is a sort of processing aid for you, changes how you think, give you more room to think in a way.

I don't think the relating hexagram is the outcome, it is far more fluid and connected to the primary present. It isn't the outcome or 'the future' which isn't to say there won't sometimes be times when it is but it is more helpful to think of it as existing at one with the primary, the backdrop to the situation.

I think i was hoping for a value judgement from the I Ching.
I don't think you've got one, it looks more like this is something that is part of your way of changing your way of thinking for periods of time and you have some reason to want to do that.

What this isn't is concentration/focus....all that one can't generally do using weed although there are exceptions in the sense of getting lost in some art/music or a carpet pattern or something but you aren't really fully steering your own attention but then maybe you don't always want to.

I think this is more asking you to consider what use it has for your mental life, your thinking processes ? It is not it's pair, the other side of the coin 60, it's not putting attention to specifics where it is directed but attention allowed to ooze where it will.

7. The Army speaks of the need for discipline and focus.
59. Speaks of dispersing focus.

I think the I Ching is saying smoking weed can help you to detach and relax, to disperse worries and stuck ideas but 7 warns you are ultimately the one responsible so “don’t be so open minded your brains fall out.”
