Sometimes, just for the curiosity of it, I have used Yang Hui "magic" circle after a reading for locating relations and influence between hexagrams. I have just used it on a question related with an important matter and I got some very surprising connections.
I wonder if anyone has tried that and any opinion on the results...:bows:
Hi Lauree,
I never have. I wonder if Andreas Schoter has, being math genius he is and having an affinity with Yang's work. Would you please tell us how you use the circles with the Yijing?
Cheers,
Luis
Thanks, interesting your approach to Yang Hui's work. For all the mathematical genius he was, he doesn't seem to have published anything related to the Yi.
I see what you mean to do with the Magic Circle but, how do you reconcile the difference between the limited number of small circles with the 64 hexagrams?
L
Thanks. I'll have to check deeper into his work and see what I find. I like to explore magic squares and such. As for the Tai Hsuan Ching, ah..., that's an interesting work. There are some that believe it is the evil twin of the Yijing and created by a Fang Shih. Something really bad for those "some"...
L
Well, I use diverse circles as the one I attached before or the one below, if they include the hexagram I got ... but if I want to do better work or the hexagram number is not on any circle, I use the Yang Hui square enclosed below which is ordered in the Gua order and in which all the columns, rows and the two diagonals sum up to 260. So, I locate the number of the hexagram and see its relationships on any 260 line...
Very interesting those circles I didn't know them.
How many of those circles Yang Hui made?
Do you also have a title of a book where he describes and explains those circles.
How do you work with the last magic circle related to this magic square?
This magic circle of 260( I have another one), was the reason why I studied for a while Mayan astrology because they have 20 astrogical signs and 13 tones. So 260 different combinations.
a lot of questions, but I find this very interesting!!
Thanks Frank
Is it ...wise...to discuss here the Tai Hsuan? I just don't want another "tokigate affair" but is something very interesting to me...
Which version you have of it?
By the way, do you have Arguelles about magic squares? Is it worth?

AH...mayan cosmology... the Tzolkin, the Haab and the connection to the magic cube... fascinating subjects. Have you read Arguelles relating I Ching and the Mayan Calendar ?...
...
I have Michael Nylan's translation and commentary. I believe it is the best English translation of the THC so far. That book is difficult to find (600 and some pages) but SUNY has an abridged version for a good price./QUOTE]
Yes, I got the same. I would like to get something from when it was still a Xuan (Hsuan) and not yet a canon (Jing) though...
Have you read "I Ching and Transpersonal Psychology" by Marysol González Sterling? If you haven't you'll enjoy it. It has an introduction by José Argüelles.
L
I will get it.. Thanks!
Hallo Laureet,
Yes I have read severall books of Arguelles, I liked Earth Ascending most http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Ascendi...9705765?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184257458&sr=8-1
In this book there is also a lot of I Ching,
In another thread I described the connection I found between The Yi and the 260 day Calendre of the Maya's http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=4002.
In the past I made many big paitings(100 by 150), so I could see the connections in perspective. And 1 of the first I made was that from Earth Ascending and the Yi.
Frank.
That is very interesting ! Is there anything from your conclusions in that study which you want to briefly share?
Well, I use diverse circles as the one I attached before or the one below, if they include the hexagram I got ... but if I want to do better work or the hexagram number is not on any circle, I use the Yang Hui square enclosed below which is ordered in the Gua order and in which all the columns, rows and the two diagonals sum up to 260.
