Because gp’s blood vessels are so tiny it’s impossible w/o general anesthesia. The latter poses significant risk for sick pigs or significantly underweight ones to wake up/recover from. There’s no way to intubate them too.I'm very glad you know of good guinea pig vets.
Why must they use general anesthesia to draw blood? They don't do that with cats and dogs as far as I know (at least have never with mine).
