I am going through a series of obstacles at work.


I asked Yi:

What does my boss see in me?

Hex 1 with moving lines 2,3,4,5. > hex 27

I''ve trouble interpreting this bunch of moving lines. The great person and the superior man. It would be great if anyone offers some insights.

I would see the lines in this case as a progression; your progress at work, and in your bosses eyes (although often when we ask the I Ching how someone views us, it simply replies about where WE are at.) .

The relating hexagram 27 asks you to look at what you are trying to nourish, and how to best go about it.

1. Sunrise

Line 2:

Seeing a dragon in the field.
It is beneficial to see a senior person.

There is potential (an idea or inspiration) that is becoming manifest, coming to realization. Some form of guidance will be beneficial, like the help of an advisor or mentor, or information from a book.
(The dragon in the field is like the sun that has just come up.)

Line 3:

Until the end of the day the noble one is vibrant, vibrant.
At sunset he is alert as if there is danger.
Without fault.

Being very active all day, striving ceaselessly, still being quite alert in the evening. There is nothing wrong with that.

Line 4:

Something stirs in the depths.
Without fault.

There is potential, but it's unreachable for now. There is no blame.
(When fish swim around in deep water, all you may see is something stirring there.)

Line 5:

A dragon flying in the sky.
It is beneficial to see a senior person.

Taking creative action and exerting an influence. Some form of guidance will be beneficial, like the help of an advisor or mentor, or information from a book.
(The dragon flying in the sky is like the sun that is now fully shining up in the sky, some time after sunrise.)

The person in line 5 may have assigned work to a younger worker or having to deal with customers.
Hexagram 1 is hollow. Things are not that good. Since you are line 3, you do not hold a high position at work. Hexagram 27 means things come and go. You are only accountable to what you promise or say. Think before you speak.
You are definitely not the boss favors or someone he trusted with the work.

Given that my reading and Long Yi's reading seem to be opposite, I'd like to ask you: What do you think? What caused you to ask this question? Do you have hints that the boss doesn't think much of you, or, conversely, that he or she thinks you are capable?

You know, we try never to ask what another person is thinking about us, because the responses are extremely difficult to interpret.

The yang pattern of your moving lines is 28, indicating that you're under pressure right now. Yi is giving you the advice to think before you speak, as Long Yi said, because when we are overwhelmed or under a lot of pressure we can sometimes speak without thinking, to our own detriment. Also, the yin pattern of 27 and your relating hexagram of 27 could be reminders to act always with moderation. Hexagram 27 is the picture of a mouth. Making money to feed yourself and also becoming aware that the true source of your nourishment is intangible are important concepts.
