Evening, all! I'm really enjoying reading all the posts here. I obviously don't feel comfy yet giving my own interpretations on other people's questions, so my post number remains low. Here's something I could use a bit of help with. The question I asked was "Do I place an exaggerated amount of importance on romantic relationships?" I suppose part of the inspiration I got for that question was the amount of romance related questions I see here... and realizing that most of the questions I have so far asked are related, at least in a way, to romantic partnerships or possibilities. I got #12 with no changing lines.

My initial reaction/ thought to reading it was that I'm being advised that right now is not an opportune time to be concentrating so much on these matters... so in a word, yes, I am (at this moment) placing too much energy in thinking about such things, because it is a bad time for them. Anyone care to chime in?

Hi there Jazzy. Is it 10 unchanging or 12 unchanging? coz your title says 10 but your text says 12.

Awww, cripes. Yeah, it's 12 unchanging (Pi) with the trigram of heaven above the trigram of earth. Ugh... long day.

Hex 12 static (alas) does not bode well for much of anything. Heaven is moving upward, earth is moving downward, there is little-to-no likelihood of a productive intermingling in this moment. Tomorrow is another day.

Thank you, Elias. See... that's kinda what I thought too. In response to the question I asked, ("Is my concern with a romantic life exaggerated?")it seems like the hexagram is saying that right now is not a good time to be concerned with such things... I should just sit tight, take a breather and see what the future brings. All things concerned (ie: me getting over a broken engagement) it seems to make sense.

Oops, first off, let me say I didn't edit your post - I pressed the wrong button when I went to write a response. Sorry.

Anyway, the I Ching doesn't lend itself easily to "Yes-or-No" questions. It gives you a mirror of your current situation but every hexagram can be interpreted as meaning Yes or No. Thus, while 12. Stagnation without change lines certainly mirrors your feelings that your love-life is at a Standstill just now, I don't agree that it necessarily indicates you are putting too much emphasis on romance. If you read the whole text it says that in order for a time of Stagnation to evolve it is necessary for one to do something to get things moving. So it could be interpreted as saying your love life is so stuck right now that you NEED to put attention on it. If it says to you that there's nothing out there now, fine, but when you do decide you're ready to love again you may need to do something: Make yourself available - don't assume love will find you even if you're hiding in the cellar.

Ah...

Thank you, Rosada - that is certainly a different take than my initial interpretation, and that's exactly why I'm here.

12 is not a negative hexagram. None of them are. This one does, however, speak to the process of negation, of making a decision to follow the superior or abandon the inferior. It is a highly positive outcome, for instance, to turn and walk away from something miserable or to strike out in search of something better..

Hi bradford, i had your same opinion about the non positivity and non negativity of hexagrams... obviously all depends from the question.
then i read about the "guy hun" and the "you hun" type. i become a bit anxious.... cause i remembered some old readings.
for example about 4 years ago I was to a dinner with an old girl friend of mine, some years before we had a bit trouble.. this lead us to go different ways. after the promissing dinner, the rebirth joy sensations... i thought about us like Chip an' Dale i asked the Yi: what do i have to expect as next between me and her? 12!!!
after some intense, also indirectly trying we were not able to meet again.... if yes, just 2 times in some occasion but we were something less than friend.
well what i can say is that it's still this way. obviosly she isn't in my mind, just in this moment while writing about. i hope my thought could be useful for someone.

Thanks for all of your comments. I've learned quite a bit, I'd say, in the short time I've been here. I'd say that I never really considered any hexagram to be positive or negative, per se, as they have different meanings according to different situations. That's my understanding anyway. I didn't take this reading as negative, just perhaps an indication that some time and effort on my part might be better spent in avenues where I might actually achieve something. After looking at the image on the card that Sparhawk put up, I got a memory that made things rather clear. When I was young, and on a family trip, we got caught in a traffic jam. Everything came to a standstill, and people were told to turn their cars off, because we wouldn't be moving for at least 2 hours. There were 2 different kinds of people that evening... the people who sat there, fuming for the whole time, and people who waited, and did productive things with there time. My folks were cool, and amused my sister & I with games, songs and stories, and when the traffic started moving, we were in a much better place than some of the other people next to us. I feel like that's where I am right now - things might not move for a while, so I should use this time for positive acts, rather than being frustrated that things aren't moving.
