Hi :) Just wondering if anyone has any insight into hexagram 44 and someone’s intention in creating union. In particular lines 1, 3, and 5. I keep getting this as a response and I can’t see the answer clearly. The lines seem to be in conflict. Thankful for you and this community. :)

Line 1'Held fast by a golden chock. Constancy: good fortune. With a direction to go, see the pitfall:A scrawny pig can be trusted to kick and struggle.'Line 3'Thighs without flesh,Moving awkwardly now.Danger, no great mistake.'Line 5'Using willow to wrap melons.Containing a thing of beauty,It comes falling from its source in heaven.'

Hi chelsa,

What was your question anyway?

The lines arent contradictory.
Lets string them together into one sentence:

Put the brakes on,
because this one/thing will kick your backside, and show restraint: don't give this one your melon!

Not contradictory at all.

The related hexagram is 38.

Hi Moss Elk- Thank you so much for your reply!! :) very much appreciated. My question was “what is their intention of creating a union?” It felt like the union created anxiety within them (lines 1,3) but also they felt compelled to do so because hex 44 seems like a pull that is outside of oneself. Line 5 just confused me. I assumed that maybe it meant that if they continued down that path with caution they would be rewarded? Not sure. :)

I'm still confused,
Are you involved in this situation at all,
or are you a third party to it?

Third party and asked for a friend. There’s someone she’s very interested in who seems to be interested in her. They spend a lot of time flirting but it doesn’t seem to move past that, and she was wondering if he had any intention of creating something more.

Then I think the reading is advice for your friend.

Sometimes Yi doesn't answer the question directly, but instead says what is important for the person to hear.
