What's the difference between 60 and 47?

They are both about limitations...but there's a difference. I'm not quite sure I understand it.

Hex #60 is limitation caused by a lack of motive; Hex #47 is limitation caused by lack of means. The latter is a more natural low period, exhaustion after a long period of activity, depleted resources which will inevitably be replenished, given time, whereas the former is an inability or unwillingness to go beyond a certain point, self-limitation.

Thing of an athlete or a monk maintaining a rigorous discipline of training, and they perform their practice no matter what, come rain or shine - that's 60. It's a discipline; it doesn't prevent movement, it disciplines it according to a pretty strict timetable. We're talking rhythm here.

Think of Nelson Mandela in prison (for 27 years, was it?). That's 47. There's no freedom of movement, but the great man actually has good fortune in a way. We're talking inner growth being triggered by being outwardly blocked.

But yeah, they're in the same quadrant, along with 9 and 26.

Yes, a lack of interest in breaking through a border is a part of Hex #60 - an unwillingness to examine said border, and what lies beyond; a limited viewpoint, unwilling to accept new information or see things from another perspective, fear of the new limiting spontaneity and creativity.

I almost agree. I do remember a few 60’s when I was trying to jump over the fence. But you are right, there was an unwillingness to examine its nature, a blindness to its purpose and what lies beyond. Good point. Thank you.
