Hi.I am a lot into Celtic and Norse mythology, Tarot, Runes and oracle cards. That's why my Username is that of a Celtic goddess. It doesn't seem to fit in here, but it is the one I use to register in sites. Personally, my beliefs are more of a Taoist nature. I read a chapter of Tao Te Ching everyday, (Stephen Mitchels translation) because I find it soothing and as a tool for meditation. That lead me to an interest in I ching, more looking for insight into a situation than as an oracle. A couple of days ago I installed an app in my tablet called Deepware Changes, which I am finding quite useful. My book is a cheap Spanish version that comprises the hexagram meaning, a Confucius quote and a passage of Tao that suits that hexagram. The book is not bad but not too good either, so here are my questions:Asking about a situation I am stuck in, I got hexagram 10 unchanging. The lines I got were 7 7 8 7 7 7 from bottom upwards. But my book indicates the lines 9 9 6 9 9 9. Is this correct? And why the book doesn't contemplate my lines? (that I got with the app btw). What can you tell me of an 10uc?How many times a day can you consult the I Ching, whether I ask about different things, or if I ask about the same situation? How often do you use it?Considering the separate trigrams, what insight I am supposed to get by reading their meaning? Or better only consider the Hexagram fully?Sorry about so many questions. My interest in I Ching come from long but I had it abandoned and I just started using it again...

Lots of these questions would do better in Exploring Divination such as

Responses to that will vary a great deal according to opinion...

As for the 99699 it depends what value you give to represent a yin/yang line, I mean heads might be 2 or might be 3 according to how you do it...I've forgotten , will link to the Learn section. I don't use values now, you get used to how you do it. https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/lea...st-a-reading/casting-a-hexagram-with-3-coins/

Trust me, there are many people here with such interests. You'll fit in fine.

You have a lot of questions!
(that's good)

Yi can give you insight into many things: Yourself, other people, situations, you name it. You will be surprised.

I can't comment on the errors in the book you are reading (other than if it doesn't work with the change lines that I wouldn't consider worth reading), but I can say hex 10 is about cautious, respectful behaviour, acknowledging the 'superiority/power/danger of the other person, and acting in a way to not get bitten by the Tiger.

I just subscribed. Never changed my username. May I ask how you consult without using values? Do you suggest moving my questions to another thread? Sorry, rookie mistakes!

Moving to Exploring Divination.

So, for general questions, this is the place. for help understanding a specific reading, Shared Readings is the place.

Welcome to Clarity.

...but this doeshave a reading in it ...oh well

copied from over there ....................

No you didn't change your name I got confused, sorry.

Yes I use values...but not numbers...so if I consult with coins
two tails and one head is a yang line
two heads and one tail is a yin line
3 heads is an old yang line
3 tails is an old yin line

...so once back in the mists of time I used numbers to assign yin/yang to get there but I don't need them now, that's how I do it, just look at the heads/tails. If you assign the values differently you might make two tails and one head a yang line...it depends how you assign the values and it doesn't matter which way around you do it as long as you stick to the same way for you.

If you post for help with the 10 unchanging in shared readings,
and give some details of the situation, then people are likely to help.

(the part about sharing details makes it much easier for people to help.)

Er... if the book doesn't have a translation of the I Ching itself, I'm afraid it really is bad - see this page. (And this one for some recommendations including two for free.)

:Asking about a situation I am stuck in, I got hexagram 10 unchanging. The lines I got were 7 7 8 7 7 7 from bottom upwards. But my book indicates the lines 9 9 6 9 9 9. Is this correct?
Yes.

7 means an unchanging yang line - 9 means a changing yang line.
8 is unchanging yin - 6 is changing yin.

Hexagram 10 is that combination of yang and yin lines, with any or none of them changing. So for instance you could cast hexagram 10 with 778777, or 976777 (lines 1 and 3 changing).

However, you only read the text for a line when that line is changing. So the book says '9' next to line 1 because you'd only read the text for line 1 if it were changing, ie if you'd cast a 9 for that line. And so on.
