Hello friends,

Some time ago in my thread dedicated to job search I asked about my actions, the way they should be in order to get a job.

From 9 UC I understood that the way will be long and routine and prepared for it. But I must say that sometimes I lose my patience, especially since I do not go to interviews because those few vacancies offered me so far do not suit me. In sum, my work has boiled down to waiting, waiting for the rain, for several months.

Does 9 UC emphasize the idea of daily routine and waiting when there is nothing to be done? Thanks.

Hi , I think 9 tells you to stay small in your expectations for change, while taking significant steps daily. Can you clarify your vision for your job and talk to people who may be able to help you ? Can you keep yourself busy at something constructive? Hexagram 9 says that small steps add up

When I got 9 UC, I cowardly quitted. I used to be afraid with timescales - too long! My inner bustler wants to get the wishful fast.

When everything takes course, I feel shame for being that way. So for me 9 UC is a challenge for my cowardice and immaturity.

How is your job search going now?
What if you find ways to do something constructive, while you have this time open, so that you feel useful and like you are getting somewhere?

On Friday I sent out my CV for 2 vacancies. Not sure that they will suit in respect of wage rate, but who knows. I am not even sure that I will receive responses - here, in Russia, employers often do not respond to your CV, I came across that many times. My employer will find me and contact me first - I do not know why but this seems to be my scenario of job search.

Plenty of time I am spending now doing daily routine, household chores and self-cultivation. They should be reversed the order.

Juliah, it is similar in the US-- employers do not reply to CVs unless they want to interview you. Sometimes it helps to network, to go out and meet people in the field, even if they have no jobs to offer.
It can be hard to go through unemployment -- and I've been there.
It is nice to have time for self-cultivation. Maybe you could ask the Yi about how to accomplish your bigger desires in your work?

Not sure that I caught your idea, Loverofknowledge, but it's seems to me that I should bite the bullet (literally 21.5, I got it when I asked when my unemployment was over) and wait doing concurrently that daily drudgery I should do to find a job.

"To accomplish bigger desires" is not clear to me, sorry. And I would replace them with needs.

Juliah, That sounds very practical and right on. You are building persistence and patience.
I realize that you might just need to accept the job that becomes available. But,
yy "bigger desires" (or: needs) I meant-- all the different things that matter to you, and that you desire in your working situation, for examples:
1. do you want a work place where you can work alone/vs. cooperatively with others?
2. where you can make lots of money vs. have more time for yourself?
3. where you can be the boss vs. where you do not have to supervise others?
4. where you can work in an office vs. working outside?
Maybe if you break it down -- what you like and don't like, what you want and don't want, you could then ask different questions of they Yi or feel like you have more sense of control.
For example for me, I realized that it is worth it to me to make less money if I have more time and creative freedom. Just an example.

Loverofknowledge, thank you for your approach, very sensible and level-headed. Your advice is fine and really makes sense, but I feel that it won't work with me. About 10 years I have been working as a PA to a CEO in different companies. I like my job though it may seem not creative and dull to someone. During this period I acted as a secretary, a coordinator, a supervisor, a translator, a project manager, a travel manager, an event manager, and even as a PR manager and a journalist - all this within the PA position. I understand the specific character of this job, I know how to build up relationship within the company and externally, and I hope to find an alike position in the office. So the alternatives you kindly offered are not alternatives for me. I know what I can and where and why I would like to work.

Interesting that my job has always reached me out. It takes all sorts to make a world, and my example, of course, does prove nothing and does disprove nothing.

Hex 9: "The superior man refines the outward aspect of his nature." - Wilhelm

While The Taming Power of The Small often describes a situation where you're standing around waiting without much else to do - and therefore you might as well tidy things up a bit - I also have seen hexagram 9 as referring to a situation where a person is one of many (like many job applicants) and they need to do more than wait, they need to do something to make themselves stand out. I think of a famous actor (can't remember the name) who got their first movie role because they caught the director's attention by wearing a red hat in a crowd scene. So I think the IC is urging you to do something to refine your appearance, something to make yourself a bit more visible. Make new business cards perhaps? Up-date your resume?

Btw, some Feng - shui practitioners suggest washing down the outside of your front door causes energy and opportunity to find it's way to you.

Just thought - to me, that rather means the superior man's ability to be strong in the eyes of others, no matter how hard he feels, to overcome judgments gracefully.

Looking back at the past I see that there were no such circumstances when I found job in a company where I sent my CV myself. I have always been reached out: "Not getting what you want, you get what you need."

But, again, this is my case which does prove nothing.

Hello friends!

Just a small update if it can be called so.

I am working freelance keeping my hopes up. In 2016 I could not get a job.

Thanks for the update, Juliah. I can see where hexagram 9 could actually be describing a person doing freelance work!

Hi Friends,

Just a small update. It took me two years and several months to find a new job, I found it last month, in February 2018. Before that happened I had been working as a private tutor. Now I am working at a law firm.
