Hi Everyone

Always seeking to enhance my my collection, I was browsing through the I Ching books available through the public library and came across The Lover's I Ching by Karcher (1999). It adheres closely to his larger works (as it should), but obviously emphasizing romantic relationships.

It also contains a separate section called Models for Relationships. These models can be received as part of a regular consultation or cast separately using a method described in the book. Each of the 22 Models is based on a hexagram, but not in the same order. For example, Hex 7 is Model 1, Hex 27 is Model 7. These models describe the forces currently active in a relationship. The description of each model provides general counsel about the situation, in much the same style as his other books, and answers a set of questions about the relationship. Some of the answers are quite blunt: "Will the relationship endure? Only as long as you can stand the pain." (Model 15 - Hex 47) Or comforting: "Will the relationship endure? It may endure longer than your own lifetime." (Model 18 - Hex 45)

I've never seen this Model approach anywhere and wonder if anyone is familiar with this book or whether other authors have used something similar - and if so, what you think of it. I do like the book, for the record - and have it on order for my personal collection.

Thanks, Hilary

Have you had a chance to evaluate this version? Are you planning to review it? I'd be interested in your comments -- especially about the Relationship Model oracle.

I see it's also available in hardcover, at least in the UK. I'm still partial to a real, physical book, for all the conveniences of the electronic medium. Curling up with a monitor on your lap makes it so hard to sip tea as you read!

No, this is one book of Karcher's I haven't got. I'll add it to my list! At least it's actually available quickly in the UK - I sometimes think the publishers must use very arthritic pigeons to transport books from the US...
