I haven't had good work in a long time... I was raised to believe that I should have an amazing career, a passion. Unfortunately I can barely get hired to do anything. Either I'm overqualified or I've been out of the industry for too long or people just don't want me.

At times, I feel useless and like I lack dignity. I don't contribute to society with work, and at this point I send my resume to any old acquaintance or job posting with vague glimmers of hope.

What should I do so I can get out of this situation and find work and dignity?

Gradual Progress - Those who persevere make continuous progress - be patient - develop yourself (but how?) - nonresistance is wisest (do I stop trying?). I wonder if this suggests going back to school?

This becomes Duration... remain steady and allow the world to shape itself. Do not let the ego swell with success or misfortunes. Hold your course. Do not be impatient.

Familiar situation. I have experienced a 2-year period of being unemployed. Lacking dignity is one of the worst things that can befall you. The more you knock at different doors, the more employers bounce you.

What helped me: no movements at all, stand still doing only what you consider to be done, not for fear of further being unemployed. No fussing around, no panic, accept situation as it is, lack of money, lack of prospects, everything. It may take time but you won't be sorry about it, believe me. This won't last forever.

Hi Juliah, how did the situation work out for you?

I did take time off from worrying about it to plan my wedding earlier this year. And for a couple of months, I felt fantastic! Totally liberated. It was such a nice feeling to be planning something and feeling useful and also giving myself permission not to worry about work.

Also, what do you think the Yi is saying here?

I kept falling into this impasse (just like Alice in the rabbit burrow) and thought, "Whenever will there be the bottom?" While falling into the impasse I got the runaround, was being interviewed again and again, hoped and beat head against the wall. Finally, when I smoothed down, I was hired - I must say, it was quite unexpected :) Total involvement is a great thing but it needs restraining since it may destroy the goal.

To me it says, "Measure and a gradual approach." You should not be frightened at the long-term process. You will speak well of this trying time, and, perhaps, with a smile on your lips.

A small addition. You should not bend with the employers' wind. As practice shows, employers do not know their own mind. Knowing your own mind takes time. Now you have time to know it better.
