I just asked a question: "How are things going?" and got 57.2.6 to 39. I noticed that both lines had the phrase 'penetration under the bed' (Wilhelm) so it must be important here. I take it that this is about secrets, things going on that are hidden and must be brought to light. In line 2 you get some help in doing this. (I've seen it refer to private investigation). In line 6 you lose some possessions.

Any help with this reading? What can you tell me about this phrase 'penetration under the bed'? It doesn't look like a very nice reading and I'm concerned about this phrase.

I don't see anything negative about 'penetrating under the bed' - for me, it's a neutral description about penetrating the unconscious dimensions of a situation - not so much secrets as assumptions and motivations you weren't aware of. A bed is where you rest and where you sleep. Sleeping means unconsciousness, a time when you're not aware. To go 'under the bed' means to go below the level that you lose consciousness. Hence the idea of penetrating the unconscious assumptions of the situations. So for me, this line has a sort of psychological, self-knowledge kind of meaning.

They are different things each time at 57.2 and 57.6.
You can't take your experience from the first and
generalize it to the second. Per the double Ba Gua
you need to penetrate this twice or you lose.
My commentary clarifies these lines a little.

Brad, interesting distinction between your 2 and 6. Yes, 2 doesn't "feel" resolved yet, and it feels out of control. 6 calls for a new plan. He thinks he's got it wired, all figured out, when "bam", he loses his ass, and is back to square one.

line 2

Subtleties happening under the bed
Employing scribes and diviners, a confusion of these
Promising
No harm done

This is about solving a mystery, finding out what you need to know and using people to help you do that.

line 6

Subtleties happening under the bed
Losing some valuables and an axe
Constancy has its pitfalls

You weren't able to solve the mystery and now you've lost something valuable. Your failure has cost you.

What do you mean by 'subtleties'?

"Not able to solve the mystery" misses the point. Thinking you had it solved is more like it, but jumping too soon to conclusions when the reality is trickier than you thought.

Subtleties are anything Xun like - (bending) wood or wind, things not immediately understood, needing to be penetrated with understanding.

When i get 57,6 I see it like I've way over-thought the issue, thought it over so much instread of helping me make a decision its now actually hindering. So losing the axe is like losing the power of effective action.

I must say I tend to get it when bordering on neurosis over decision making, looking too much into things.

I had no idea it could also mean jumping to conclusions too soon - thought it was the opposite, taking too long to reach a conclusion.

Hex 57.6 You understand what is going on, so don't muddy the issue by looking for more evidence, time to stop investigating and to decide on what action you want to take, if any.

Esolo:

I've received these together before (okay, I admit it, more than once) and I've come to see the message of 57.2.6>39 as being a call to use my instincts and not delve into the Yi at this time.

Best,
