Survey Question

And to answer the survey....................

I answer for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is because I recognise the lines and am familiar with them and have experiences with them.

Sometimes, like Meng says, it is like a puzzle to get into.

Sometimes it is because I like the question or I empathise with what the querent is experiencing.

I too have a problem with soulmates - never mind that it presupposes a soul - it takes away responsibility for directing your own life and assumes that hormones rule!

Sometimes it is because it is raining and I don't want to go out!

Sometimes (particularly with one querent who shows up from time to time) it is because she makes me laugh - she is playing a slightly tongue in cheek role and her humour is sharp!

Sometimes it is because I am groping towards an understanding and I want to bounce off other peoples answers and for them to bounce off mine - that's great for learning.

In the mood or not in the mood also plays a part.....

'cept soulmates. Still don't know what I think of that. But I could detach my personal beliefs about it to interpret for someone for whom it has meaning, I think. Though I'd prolly have to dust it with a little humor to emphasize irony.

Ahem..... like me with "vegan fundamentalism"?? ( it would probably help to know I was actually vegetarian for quite a few years) (mierda... now I've blown my cover)

I don't do many readings because I have way too little time. Would love to wander around here a lot more. Another reason is that I can only answer when I get inspired. That can be the question itself, how important is it, how much can I relate. Or the hexagrams or lines. There are still many lines I don't feel familiar enough with to set my interpretation at a querent.

I agree with Lucia that the 'style' of the querent can be a big reason. Humor, seriousness, her own effort to find the answer, or sometimes her complete bewilderment, desperately needing a way out of a situation.

Well I haven't really had a chance to answer others readings much yet, but my preferences for answering others questions would be mainly that they include their own interpretation first. I've been a member over on tarotforum.net, and there the rule is that you must provide your own interpretation first when asking for others assistance in interpreting a reading. Over there just posting your questions and the cards you got is seen as asking for a free reading. Though I don't think that all posters who make this mistake have that intention. I think it's a good rule because when you read for yourself the answers are individually tailored to you, and what you see is not always what someone else sees. You're the only person that knows all the details of whatever the situation that you're asking about. I think it's important to go with the first ideas that pop into you head, and go with your gut feeling about what the answer means, or just sit with it for a few hours/days and contemplate it before looking for others opinions. Also, posting your own interpretation makes it more of a learning environment.

I don't particularly mind what others questions are, it would probably be nice to see less 'relationship' questions, but that would never happen. And relationships are an important part of life after all. I would also rather answer questions which are worded in a way that is less fatalistic or about wanting to know what will happen. Questions that are about how someone else feels are also rather hard to answer. Still, I don't mind giving my interpretation on such questions if I feel like I have something useful to add. Multiple questions are ok, if it's just a couple and they're not the same question repeated because the first answer was confusing.
