My memoir is coming out in a few months. I've always figured I'd read the audio version. Audible has just made me an offer for the audio rights, but they won't let me read it. I'm feeling bummed out and not sure what to do.

Option 1: Giving in. What about just taking the Audible deal and letting someone else read it? 23.3 to 52.

Option 2: Producing it myself in some form -- either by doing all the work myself or hiring someone else to, and then putting it up on Audible for them to sell (which is an option, even if they don't produce the audiobook themselves, as in option 1). 50.4.6 to 46.

Option 3: Somehow pushing Audible harder to let me read it. 54.

My take on option 1 is that sucking it up and saying yes would work out OK -- I'd just have to let my vision of it be stripped away. And I'd need to deal with my feelings about it in a meditative way, just kind of sitting with it all and staying still, not letting myself get too worked up about it.

For option 2, I'm inclined to think that the starkly different moving lines give different possibilities of how it could work out: It could be an unholy mess (line 4), or it could work out beautifully (line 6). Either way, it's going to be a lot of work.

And it sounds like option 3 just ain't gonna happen. I don't have the power.

Any thoughts?

Make that four options. Audible is not the only company that buys audio rights for books and produces audio versions. I just asked, "What about telling my agent I want him to find someone else to produce it, someone who will allow me to read it?" I got 20.3,6 to 39.

That would certainly involve stepping back and getting a broader view of the landscape of possibilities here. And the context is clearly difficulties -- I'm feeling obstructed at the moment. I'm inclined to think that the moving lines put this into a positive light, but I'm not confident on that one.

Hi Julie,

I am by no means an expert at interpretation but have found on more than one occasion that 23.3 meant "avoid this option". Specifically, I had been trying to eliminate severe digestive problems and had been querying the I Ching about which options to try or not try. Digestive system is working perfectly now and I am intensely grateful for two different 23.3 readings which instructed me (I believe) to avoid two medicines which I otherwise might have continued taking. Do you ever visit LiSe's site? Her 23.3 interpretation seems pertinent to your situation:

6 at 3: Stripping it. Without fault.
To be yourself, living your own life, making your own decisions, you have to break away from all those people (inside or outside) who tell you how to live. Or even without saying anything, expect you to live according to their views. Even if you choose an absurd life - so what? It is your life.

Best of luck!
