What can help me with long covid? Hexagram 41 Decreasing. To reduce something? Diet? Not sure how to interpret it, any help would be appreciated 🙂

41 -;decreasing expectations on yourself, accepting the effect on your life so you can move forward in a new way?

I have heard acupuncture can help with long COVID symptoms relating to the blood brain barrier, and there is more research being done. This also affects me, and I have struggled a lot to accept the brain fog and advancement of my immune disease as a consequence. There is a lot of grieving I still have to do.

But as the disabled community can tell you, any time one experiences a loss of ability, it's normal to feel a range of emotions about it including denial. Life will never be the same..That doesn't mean "give up hope, it's all lost" it's just a matter of acceptance being the first step to symptom management and finding accomodations for this new chapter of life.

Look up a product called NAC - it helped me as I too experienced long COVID.
It's also recommended to reduce (Decrease) things in your diet - gluten, dairy or eggs.
The best way is to do it by a process of elimination. Gluten now makes me unwell as do eggs but no problem with dairy. It took a while for me to work it out though.

Thanks so much, I do drink lattes every single day and often snack on yoghurts so I will try eliminating them from my diet to see if that works. I have actually noticed that eggs have a strong effect on my symptoms so I’m already avoiding them. I‘ve not heard of NAC before, but just looked it up and it looks like it may help with inflammation so will pick some up from a health store today. I work full time and sometimes evenings as well and get really tired and feel desperate to get back to my old self again. So thanks again for your advice. 🙂

I'd ditch the coffee too then for the time being. I reluctantly did that and noticed how much better I felt!! Now it's hot chocolate but not very often and never coffee anymore. Anything we eat or drink has to get filtered by the liver and when we're sick like COVID it's a huge toll for our organs to be dealing with, then topping it up with 'toxic' things for our livers - it's makes us feel like sh**

I don't think you should jump to any conclusion you need to change your diet with the exception of caffeine which may be beneficial to reduce. 41 is not specifically telling you to cut out eggs or anything else. I think you need to think about the answer, Decrease, far more generally than that.

It worries me somewhat that you'd be potentially excluding necessary foods, good foods like yoghurt and eggs with no real back up as to why you'd need to do that for long Covid. I mean if you found eggs don't agree with you fair enough but I don't think this has anything to do with Yi's answer. If you made this decision to cut out foods because of your own research/other factors okay but please don't take it that Yi is suggesting this. I think it would be a mistake to stop eating yoghurt because of getting 41 alone, that would be a misunderstanding of this answer.

41 says

Name
Decrease, Diminishing, Offering. The character shows a vessel being emptied out.

Oracle
'Offering, with truth and confidence.
From the source, good fortune.
Not a mistake, this can endure.
Harvest in having a direction to go.
Asking why, what is its use -
Two simple bowls make the offering possible.'

See the last line there 'Two simple bowls make the offering possible'. So you aren't being asked to make big sacrifices just small ones and I'm far more inclined to go with this being about energy and time management and attitudes to getting better than cutting out foods. So you are being asked to make some sacrifices and indeed accept some loss, that is unavoidable as Kestrel said but it's doable.

What does the Image say for 41, this is often a good guide for action with an UC hexagram particularly

'Below the mountain is the lake. Decrease.
Noble one, Anne777, curbs anger, restrains desires.'

I think this points to your wish to get better, the impatience for it, all the things you want to do. Yi is saying curb those, restrain your wish to get back to normal as quickly as possible, just bear with it, make small sacrifices that you can reducing activity where you can. It sounds like you are working overtime, evenings too and if you have long Covid how is that helpful. I wouldn't like to see you trying to work these long hours and cutting out useful food.

So it's good to reread what Yi is actually saying here, think about what these small sacrifices might be that are needed and also the emotional desires, particularly that it's helpful to restrain right now. I think one of these you are are being asked to curb for example might be that sense of exasperation that you aren't getting well quickly. When you feel that exasperation let it go, give it up. I think that is likely far more the message here than not eating yoghurt.

I have an update on this post, I do have dairy allergy now confirmed and cutting it out helps with a lot of my symptoms. I guess my question was what could help with the symptoms, not cure it and I think the answer meant to cut out what was making me sicker.

So you didn't have a dairy allergy before, but COVID triggered it? Interesting (in a scary way). Sorry this happened, Anne. Best of luck; hopefully it'll clear up eventually.
