Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share this and it would be iteresting to hear ideas on it.
I was deeply saddened by Brittany Muphy's death a couple of days ago. And it made me think of death in general -the enormity of it - and I felt I could ask the I ching about it (holding in mind everyone I knew who had died - from people to pets)

I asked Where do they go?
5,3,4,6>10

As I read the lines it seemed to say that sometimes death is the only way out of a dark or dangerous situation. I heard the actress had health prolems, and was painfully thin. I've loved her films - she was so endearing too. It's sad that she seemed to live up to the Hollywood image as the spotlight on her grew. But I think that'd be so easy for anyone - especially if you love what you do but have to make sacrifices to stay up (or at least you're made to feel that way through media pressure, or the general concensus that has created an image of what to aspire to in terms of looks..), and I think this coupled with underlying health problems was too much. Though of course I didn't know her. But I take comfort from the reading. Perhaps death lifts people out of unlivable situations onto differnent or more suitable road? A release if you're in a lot of pain..

5.3> talks of being in a serious situation that could injure (such as I suppose deteriorating health)
5.4 > 'The situation is extremely dangerous. IT is of utmost gravity now--a matter of life and death. Bloodshed seems imminent. There is no going forward or backward; we are cut off as if in a pit. Now we must simply stand fast and let fate take its course.'
5.6 > 'The waiting is over; the danger can no longer be averted. One falls into the pit and must yield to the inevitable. Everything seems to have been in vain. But precisely in this extremity things take an unforeseen turn. Without a move on one's own part, there is outside intervention. At first one cannot be sure of its meaning: is it rescue or is it destruction? A person in this situation must keep his mind alert and not withdraw into himself with a sulky gesture of refusal, but must greet the new turn with respect. Thus he ultimately escapes the danger, and all goes well. Even happy turns of fortune often come in a form that at first seems strange to us.'

I like the last line as it holds an image in mind for me of a benevolant hand lifting you out of a dangerous state... light entering the cave.

And hex 10 > Could be referring to treading the journey of life? Getting closer to a higher power? That we tread with mortal human footsteps, and gently progress - standing on the shoulders of giants? Or that the higher power does not bite - death is not to be feared?

I just really do feel sad for her mother. Those that we leave behind..
I think this reading says... sometimes for people there's no other way out, from living in a dark cave you can be elevated somewhere else and that can be beneficial though of course we can't see where they go.. and hex 10 could be reflecting our vulnerability and limited perspective, but that we needn't fear?

Any thoughts? I know it's a dark subject, but it really has touched me.

Hi em ching
A thought provoking question, of that there is no doubt. While you were holding in mind all the souls that you had known that had passed over.Your question to my mind is focused on their journey and might be something like this.......

10 - they are treading the light fantastic ( balancing the high and the low) by
5 - going into a state of positive waiting. As LiSe calls it - waiting for the weather to break where they
5.3 evaluate things - taking a good look at the seriuosness of all that has gone on and trying to see the limitations of what has passed before without getting bogged down by it all......
5.4 - finding the right road to see things for what they are - to understand the positive and negative of all that has passed. To recognise the truth and to accept all that has gone on, bringing the soul to a place where it can
5.6 - go beyond and see the glory of life, the universe and everything. How we are but a small cog in a fantastic wheel.

Or perhaps it's absolutely nothing like this at all.
Be well
Mike

Hello There

Well this isnt your average realtionship question

When you could read the lines in this context in telling a story of helpessness of dieing however that maybe
then line 6 the release into the next world and who are the three uninvited guest's could be the holy trinity and hex 10 treading or conduct that you go where you deserve to in relation to the footsteps of your life.
Its a hard one maybe I am way off track also (probably)

One thing is clear it doesnt sound like much fun to me until line 6
which seems to be a positive place but at the same time strange which would make sense on the otherside as i believe personally would not be like this world.

(I have only looked at wilhelms take on these lines which in this context I can see his real christian influence)

I don't know who Brittany Murphy is....seems I'm the only one, but i saw your answer as possibly 'wait and see, you'll know soon enough' which we all will yes ? :) Most of the time spent alive is about avoiding dieing ( the tiger ?)..finding food, shelter, avoiding disease and accident and it still inevitably comes when it comes..its what we wait for...with trepidation...

"when you are born you cry and everyone else laughs
when you die you laugh and everyone else cries"

i can't recall where i heard that but i liked it

Hi Mike,

I think that's great. Yes it does seem to be a reading looking at life and death from all angles, perhaps death as a contiuning journey, rather than just ascending to Heaven say, if you believe in that, which might have been represented by hex 11 maybe..
Always the Yin Yang interplay perhaps even in death! Whatever or wherever that is... and perhaps still nowhere near our destination

Hi Steve, that's interesting. Yeah I felt that receiving Hex 5 suggested the transition isn't much fun. Or perhaps it's a negative build up in your life that leads to it if you go off track in some way. But that could also be way off track, and accidents do happen. Hmm. Lofty. But I do like to think line 6 ends the ordeal positively. And treading perhaps reflects our strengh and ability to persevere despite the enormity of death and the unknown, and against all the odds here on Earth...
