For quite a while now I have been thinking about a job or career that is something that sort of uses an artistic drive, for example I like making metal sculptures and have built a working wood stove, I like making pottery and have built bathroom vanities out of dressers, and I decorated my bedroom walls with a tuscan plaster style(simulated, made with drywall compound). Also, I would love to be a glass blower

My current job is definitely going south and have been told my days are numbered, so I asked where to look to find this type of job I want. Got 12 unchanging, but I had allowed my mind to wander to something else while throwing line 4, so I decided to just finish, then look at it, then decide whether to throw again. So, I threw again and got 61.1.6 > 29

Hi kf,

Your dream job sounds like a true artist's haven and I'd like to think your heart will always lead in that direction in some fashion or other. I think 12 and 61.1.6>29 will both apply because Yi knows your whole being and was not distracted even if you were : ). Btw, your own thoughts about interpreting the casts in posts are appreciated as well in order to be able to understand what insights you have about their meaning as they apply to you also. Do you have a favorite few sources you use for reference? I use a number, but W/B always seems to hold a few gems in it that I don't see in others. A few of my thoughts:

12
It’s interesting that you say you asked “where” you’d find the job, because 12 doesn’t sound like an answer to a “where” question, more like an answer to a discouraged heart. Or, maybe that’s the answer, that the journey begins in your heart place : ). It seems hex 12 reflects the discord between your aspirations and reality (with Heaven trigram above moving away from Earth trigram below). And, what a great description of an artist’s path I think is presented as the solution (although typically not easy), one of gradual progress through soul searching (“the superior man falls back on his inner worth”) and self-sacrifice (“rejection of material rewards”).

61.1.6>29
Again, how can a “where” question apply to 61, Inner Truth, other than the inner soul place of conviction within? Imo, the 61.1.6 cast suggests you may be wavering between feeling “inwardly serene and prepared” (61.1) and “the expression [of what you want] being stronger than the feeling” (61.6).

Ultimately, imo, the resolution is the effort put into the work of hex 29. Although hex 29 is not my favorite hexagram, I’ve really appreciated the W/B Bk 1 commentary that describes the yang lines as reason and objectivity between the yin lines of darkness and subjectivity. The work, then, being to reach the right amount of objectivity. "If you are sincere, you have success in your heart, and whatever you do succeeds."

Imo, I see the two hexagrams 61 and 29 together as really looking at what nourishes you and your dream best right now. Some artists can live the poverty lifestyle. I know one who went to massage school, so now has a good paying part time job while pursuing their art. Or, maybe getting a job that simply lends itself more in the direction you are heading is right for you at this time. I think those are the kinds of practical questions that will lead to opening new doors for you.

So, where to look to find this job? Heart, mind, and soul : )? What do you think?

I would say: Don't go too far away and don't think too big for now, if you fly too high as things are right now, misfortune might occur. While you're at the beginning of your new career making, stick with what you know and what you do best. Also, the sooner you go for it, the better!
Hex 29 for me usually means danger/stress of some kind and probably it reflects your feelings to this argument. You feel the urge to find a job now and you're stressed about not finding the right one in time.
I believe these hexagrams are telling you to be active, prompt and realistic.
