Here's an odd 15uc example I had, with an odd thought to go with it.
I had lost a book, an astrological ephemeris, expensive, important to me as a reference book. Asked Yi where my lost book was, cast 15uc. Strangely I 'saw' line 6 of 15uc light up in my mind even though it wasn't a change line. I knew that line represented my book on top of other books and found the book immediately. It made me think there was something line 6ish about the unchanging hexagram. LiSe said yes it could make sense because line 6 is 'outside' of the hexagram and often we are outside the situation with unchanging hexagrams.
That's not to say line 6 would always be important in an unchanging casting when one didn't cast line 6, just an odd little happening with 15uc for me where 15uc looked like a book on top of other books.
There's a small bedside table, books on top, the one I wanted was on top. Don't ask me how I couldn't see it till I asked Yi about it, think it was partly obscured by something but still it was hardly 'lost' . Soon as did the cast I went straight to the book.
On a more textual level the book was actually exactly where I would sensibly expect to find it. It wasn't anywhere odd like the oven or the wardrobe, it was just sitting sensibly with other books by my bedside. Very 15.
I was responding to someone in CC about a 15uc reading and had a very 15ish thought in the process which seemed to help her understand the reading so I thought I would share it here. No doubt this little Yi hack has been suggested before but I had forgotten till now how it can bring a reading right into the here and now.
Given the language of Yi can be obscure to us, seem so distant, so far away, so not connected to our modern lives, try inserting your own name in place of the 'noble one' in the Image and it immediately appears much more like personal advice. Using the Image for 15, using Hilary's translation with a name inserted...picking one at random from a contributor above.
'In the centre of the earth there is a mountain. Humility.
Seeker0970 reduces the many to increase the few,
She weighs things up to even out their distribution.'
I like that it is 15uc this technique came to my attention because it is a little change that brings the reading to our own reality on the ground, brings the reading and us closer together.
thanks! it is very useful. my experience has been that it tells me to consider other points of view, other schedules, other systems of working. it has a sort of calm, gentle vibe for me.Anyone have an experiences, ideas.....or even dreams relating to the the particular significance of hexagram 15 in it's unchanging form ?
I have my own small theory that paying attention to the pairs is especially helpful in interpretation of unchanging castings so I looked at what Lise said about the pairs. First I found a print out I had done 10 years ago from Midaughters site where it appeared Lise had been working with Chris Loftings ideas about pairs....and this printout looks like it has been expanded upon in her website......anyway from that old printout from Lise which I always liked...she has written a heading for each pair.
Anyway I noticed that I seemed to have cast 15uc a few times where I cannot divulge the question here due to the fact that they are so embarrassingly unreal ....the questions that is. I imagine that must say something ! I think on those occasions 15 must have been calling my attention to reality outside of my imagination.
The one experience, slightly less embarrassing, I can relate, is when I cast 15uc about the purchase of a raincoat After I had bought it I wondered if I had been extravagent/bought something unecessary etc. Not such a trivial question as it sounds if you have to be aware of how you use your resources. I took the answer to mean the raincoat would serve a necessary function.
Of course as I write I realise well of course it serves a function it's a raincoat .....yes yes but did I really need it....and how it looked too was an essential consideration too of course ....one cannot dispense with style just because it's raining
Hmm the outcome is after owning it for 2 years it has been actually a humdrum but useful item of apparel. I do notice I tend to get it out where nothing else quite fits the bill as suitable outerwear.
Okay so all my experiences with hexagram 15 uc appear as I write to have an element of embarrassment. I think perhaps as I've known it so so far for me it is a strong 'come to earth' message. I think, though i cannot recall specifically, that at other times 15 uc when enquiring if actions were necessary were saying "just do what needs to be done "
Looking back at Lise's simple sentences above also "grant yourself what you need" might apply to humdrum needs like raincoats...and "grant the other what he needs" can translate as "there is a world outside of your imaginings about X, Y or Z...they have their own reality". Referring back to reality away from imaginings is often what 15 uc has said to me....hence result=embarrasment...for me anyway....ahem
I expect others mileage to vary
