Hi, Courtney:...I am taking this as a "yes".
Hi, Courtney:Charly- I have so many questions about these images (from your link). Do you know how I can learn more in English?
Sample question - Why does the one page have 2 different people with only 1 leg?
And by the way, I appreciate your sharing!

Hi, Courtney:
I've posted the link to the japanese book because of the picture of the SHI SHU that appears there. there are visible the two characters and the picture belongs to something like a SQUIRREL. I use to translate it as FLYING SQUIRREL for giving a two-words translation for a two-syllabe name and because something that I've read in Harmen's page.
In the book there are many pictures of rodents and some of one-legged people or one-legged monkeys. I believe that they are mountain spirits (I'm not able to read the book) or maybe monsters. (1)
There are one-legged beings in the folklore of many countries. I believe that the image of one-legged spirits or monsters in chinese is a PUN because the characters 一足 yi1 zu2 can be read as ONE FOOT / ONE LEG / ONE LEGGED or also as ONE ENOUGH.
ONE ENOUGH or one is enough in turn can be seen as:
1) an advice to be content with what one has, even if few or little (remember the lame or one legged man that can walk).
2) an expression of UNIQUENESS, there is no other like it.
Some of the legendary one-legged chinese spirits or monsters are fond of SEXUAL JOKES. Playful creatures that have sometimes the power to pregnate women. If I remember well, one of them dropped an egg wich was swallowed by a woman and she became pregnant.
One-leggedness (or even one's enough) can be associated with SEX. Maybe the one legged spirits / monsters are phallic gods or demigods in disguise.
And what about the SQUIRREL? ike all rodents they share the reputation of having many offsprings and a high rate of copulations.`PROMOTING LIKE FLYING SQUIRRELS means maybe to f_ck like those little and agile rodents (2).
H.35 晉 jin4: to look forward / to promote / to advance / to increase / to florish // name of a dynasty, that I literally translate PROMOTING depicted in ancient characters two arrows in a quiver (LiSe), two sprouts / flowers in a vessel or TWO ARROWS REACHING ONE TARGET FROM ABOVE.
Source: Sear's Chyneseetymology.
The lower element can be the SUN which has associations with old myths and then can be read as SHOOTING OVER THE SUN or SHOOTING HIGH.
Something almost obscene because arrows have a clear phallic meaning and to shoot means in chinese the same like in english.
In H.35 there are many SEXUAL ALLUSIONS that, I believe, justify that sort of interpretations, of course, among many others, depending on the context.
I will post the chinese text of some lines. Meanwhile, what things are you willing to learn more in english?
This is also my understanding of the term.(2) «To f_uck like rabbits» in my country means to f_ck all the time, like rabbits. Maybe we can add like JUNZIS.
