I recently had a dream in which I was running around doing things trying to get them done quickly and saying to a man (who I clearly recognized as someone I know) everytime I passed him, "I'll be with you in a sec," as if he was waiting for me. At one point, I turned around to say "Just a sec," and he was pretending to be asleep but with one eye open watching me. When I turned around and looked at him, he closed it very quickly. hmmmm *raises one eyebrow*

The only thing I really focused on in the dream was that he was pretending to be asleep and watching me. Again...hmmmm *raises one eyebrow again* But today, it hit me! He's waiting??? I can't imagine what for. So I threw the coins, and asked what is he waiting for me to do??? The answer was 46.3 to 7. I'd really love some help. I don't see as deep as many of you, and I don't see an answer that makes sense to me there.

Well, my idea was that the man in your dream is joking ..

My interpretation (and maybe I am dead wrong):
He represents that part of you that is always awake and watching.
(your core, your inner witness, something like that)
You say: "I'll be with you in a sec."
Which means: I will also be awake soon.

So he waits till you awake. But you are busy.
Now he starts to play a game. He pretends that he is asleep. He mirrors your behavior and the message is: _you_ are pretending to be asleep.

Does that make sense?

About the hexagrams, I think they reflect this meaning (more or less at least), but that is a little bit difficult to explain.

I understand where you're going with this now.

LOL No I'm not pretending to be asleep, and he's not joking. To the contrary. He's a real person I have had a relationship with...I've tried to maintain a relationship in fact. I'm the bold one. The most he's ever been able to do is 'watch'...long story...and drop occasional hints. I don't get hints well. I don't read between the lines well.

But since I realized the 'waiting' aspect of this recent dream and posted about it, I remembered it's come up before...in a hint from him, and I didn't understand then either. He IS waiting, and there IS something he wants from me, but he won't tell me. I guess I'm supposed to figure it out myself. I just wish I could. I'd get right on it. The answer is in this reading, but I'm not getting it.

Ah, so it's much more down to earth than I thought.

In hexagram 7 there is a commander who tells his soldiers what to do.
There is an issue of leadership. Is that also an issue in your case?

Would you like it if he took the lead more (or more clearly) than he does till now?
Or is it the other way around and does he want to be led by you? Is he waiting for your leadership?
Or are you both waiting for the other to take the lead?

Hex.46 is striving or making promotion. The name, sheng, is a measure of rice, and a position was measured in a certain numbers of sheng per year.
Running around, doing things quickly, fits in very well with it.

The empty city might have something to do with his pretending to be asleep: he is not interested in all your running, just waiting until you stop running. Maybe not waiting for something he wants you to do, but the contrary.

Hex.7 is an army, but also organizing all your assets in a way that you can conquer the world with it (or at least fight for a strong life). Are you carrying a corpse along, long after any need for it? A make-believe, an old idea, whatever.

Well, my very first thought was that this could be commenting on your response to the dream, suggesting you were asking the wrong question - running round looking for something of meaning in an empty city.

A related thought: however accurately the dream reflects your relationship with the person, I wouldn't count on it to be just about him. It could just be the handiest symbolic situation available to represent some more important pattern. (I know, I'm a long way behind Martin here...)

Then I checked the mail this morning and found you'd written:
"If he would only tell me what else he wants! But he doesn't."

That is absolutely (eerily!) the voice of 46,3. If only there were something here to tell you what to do, if only someone would take the initiative, or at least respond to your initiative: if only there were something solid here to get hold of. But there isn't. An empty city is (probably) an abandoned capital city: it used to be the centre of activity where all the orders and initiatives came from, but now it's a ghost town.

It's like going to a class and finding it cancelled (thank you, Louise), or joining a group and finding its members don't share your values (thank you, Dharma), or making an initiative of great meaning to you that apparently falls into an echoless void. The energy is somewhere else: this isn't the focal point any more.

The good news is that there is no resistance here, either. The best advice is to say 'that was then, this is now' and to march straight onward and upward. Don't wait for the temple cobwebs to issue an oracle : the meaning of your journey is beyond this point. Well, I think this thread is the best place for this dream that I just had this morning because I believe it's further details of the dream above about the 'watcher'. I'd greatly appreciate any insight anyone has.

I dreamt there was a man trying to make contact with me. He's not someone I know in real life...just kind of generic, but in the dream I knew he would be nothing but increasing trouble...and I told my employees to get rid of him...firmly and quickly...make sure he stayed gone. There were other vague incidences in the dream that I don't remember all that well where I was either asking my subordinates to 'screen' less-than-savory or questionable men for me or doing it myself firmly. There was one I had to get away from fast, and I told a former real life employee...(who did his tasks very fast but over time became more and more unfocused, and who we had to let go), to drive me quickly to safety. His driving was horrible. He was driving in reverse very erratically into traffic, so I told him to stop, and I very quickly got behind the wheel myself and started driving. Then we segue to me preparing a bowl of milk and cereal. I looked down into the bowl, and there were maggots squirming around. They weren't regular maggots...they were long and thin, but they were identifiable as maggots in the dream. I cleaned the bowl out and proceeded to pour the milk in and a few I missed floated to the top...quite alive and squirming. I said something I can't remember to someone standing next to me and then cleaned the maggots out again and poured milk in again...and a few less were left and they floated to the top and started talking to me. They told me rather angrily and militantly they came with a message for Ms.__________ (didn't get the name). They told me if she doesn't stop doing what she's doing, they're going to take over. Then, as I was waking, the nondescript greyish people from my 'fate' dream were milling around talking to me, and they gently told me they just want her to understand the seriously negative impact her working has had on the economy. I told them she's not working any more and that shouldn't be a problem, and they said they just want her to understand how important it is.

An afterthought...

I don't care much for cereal. And there really wasn't much in the bowl...mostly milk. I imagine, in that case, there might be some symbolism in the cereal...or the milk...or both. I just wouldn't know what.

If you compare 16 and 54, you see that the lower trigram earth in 16 is replaced by the trigam lake (a young girl, the youngest daughter) in 54.

A young girl can have children. Earth is also fertile, in a different way. You can plant seeds in it and grow cereal ...
But the trigram earth stands also for a mother, an older woman who perhaps can no longer have children.

The upper trigram thunder doesn't change. In both hexagrams there is this male influence. Seed? Sperm?
And in the dream there is this man who tries to contact you, the other men who are "less than savory" and that strange guy who drives in reverse. Where is he going? Backward in time, back to the young girl that you once were?

The neurons in my brain are becoming overactive, Val, while they try to connect all these different elements.
What do you think? Does this make sense?

I will say this much...I noticed how the maggots are telling me much the same thing LiSe saw being said in the previous dream. She said the man is not waiting me to DO something. He's waiting for me to STOP doing something. So I got that much...I have to STOP doing something...but what? I imagine the "what" will tell me "why".

I've had such a day since I last posted. Many revelations and mini revolutions.

You (and the two women who so kindly helped me in email) have done an exceptional job interpreting when you're each only "feeling" a part of the elephant.

Here's a brief history of the conversation I've been having with the Yi for the past few days.

A few days ago...

Val: I'm going to now start a series of watercolors for my new grandson.

Yi: No, don't.

Val: What??? Don't? But why?

Yi: Just stop doing. You have an inner drive that will not let you rest, and if you'd just let us guide you, it would put an end to your pain. Unfortunately, since you're so driven, you will not hear what we are trying to tell you. Just wait for the breakthrough to happen. And if you don't listen soon, it will be too late. (Hex 43.4 to 5)

Val: Well how about if I start working on the music store website changes then?

Yi: No. Just stop doing. (mumbling to each other: patience...she's blonde)

Val: Well then I won't start on the series until I get the artist tape, and I'll go buy that tomorrow.

Yi: *exasperated sigh* NO! Don't go buy the tape. Don't do anything about this watercolor series yet.

Val: Well then what the heck should I be doing instead???

Yi: Change an old inner belief that is no longer valid. Get advice from others about it. When the time is right, confidence in your judgment will lead to success. Then go out and mingle, and follow your dream...follow your leader (hex 17 to 16).

Yi: (mumbling to each other) Geesh is she ever dense. Time's awastin' She's almost run out. We've got to get through to her somehow and NOW! It's summertime and her phobia of flies and maggots is wide awake. Let's try scaring some sense into her.

The creepy dream above occurs where I'm shown that one of my selves who suffers from yet another greater phobia, a fear of marriage, is enlisting my aid to drive off every man who tries to approach me. Then I (my phobic inner self) enlists the help of a man to help me escape the last man to approach me, but he almost drives right into the source of my fear, so that inner self takes control again to avoid that painful collision.

Yi: Maggots...on stage...in the bowl...NOW.

I start to pour myself a bowl of milk and cereal (nurturing and prosperity), but there are freaking maggots (fear) squirming all over the bottom of the bowl. So I clean the bowl out (faced some nasty fears and their source and killed them). But there's still some fear that floats to the surface. I clean it out again. But I still haven't killed all the fear. There's more that I have to deal with yet...and it tells me as much.

Maggots: We came with a message for Mrs.__________ (didn't get the name).

You'll notice I wrote Ms. and not Mrs. up there in my original post about the dream. They said Mrs., but when I woke up, being the dutiful slave I've been to my fear of marriage, I rationalized why I should write Ms. instead of Mrs. Ms. is how that scared inner self wants men to see me (it's a defensive mechanism). Mrs. is how I really want to be.

Maggots: If she doesn't stop doing what she's doing, this watercolor series of hers, and pay attention to US, we're going to take over.

Yi: I think that got her attention. Let's go in now and play 'good cop'.

And it did get my attention. After I realized I was projecting a Ms. image instead of a Mrs. image and read Martin's excellent interpretation, I asked what do I do now. The Yi answered 44/4.5 to 18. Arrest the decay that this image of an unmarriable maiden I'm projecting is causing...before it's too late. I am so scared to look, but I'm open to seeing the source of the last remaining bit of fear and moving the obstacle out of my path. If it doesn't show itself soon, at least I'm aware that it's still there, and still capable of causing hardship and pain for any man who just wants to love me, and I can be ever watchful until it's eradicated.

Not so terrific right now. I tapped into the source of the fear. I spent the day talking with myself about talking with myself when I got home where I would be safe. And when I got home, almost as soon as I walked in the door, it came gushing to the surface.

After I finish tortuously killing every man (in my imagination, of course) who even thought about making me feel powerless and helpless, I will get back to you.

I got in touch with the fear and the pain I'd stuffed...but I never got in touch with the anger. I'm there now...*murderous grin*

I killed them all (castrated one first...*satisfied grin*). And, after the bloodbath, I sat outside and watched the lightening bugs dance in the twilight...such serenity.

In all honesty, my first couple of posts in this thread regarding the 'watcher' in the first dream were all 'off path'. The 'watcher' I saw is a man I hope never to see again. Because he was waiting, I was hoping he was a stand in for a 'watcher' I do want to see again. He's not.

They watched for completely different reasons.

The one I actually saw in the dream watched out of a cruel need for power over me. He made sure I knew he was watching. Wait! Let's call things by their proper names shall we? He made sure I knew he was stalking. We'd had a very long relationship, and we did love each other, but still there was something not quite right enough for me. Now I know that it was he was all about power...even in love. He was a very powerful man in my business, and I was probably the first woman to walk away from him. But I couldn't afford to challenge him when he intruded on my life. I couldn't even afford to feel anger toward him. My survival was at stake. In the dream he represented all the men, including those in my childhood, who ever tried to make me feel powerless and helpless.

The one I was hoping he was a stand-in for, however, watched out of a sense of powerlessness. Now that I've learned what I have, I would guess it was a sense of powerlessness against my violent fear of marriage. He, unlike the other watcher, is an empowering kind of man. He is a very gentle and sensitive man and a very brave man. After suffering mortal emotional wounds from my violent response to his first attempt to propose, he tried again. God, I admire him.

I closed my heart and door to the actual watcher in the dream a long time ago. My heart and door will always remain open to the one I so wanted him to represent.

I've been having a series of dreams that have been leading to my awakening. Just before I had these last two, I had one in which things were happening over my head...preparations...and I heard a voice say over and over, "Someone has to die first." I didn't understand. A couple of nights later, the voice said, "Now, the time has come, the time is now."

I understand now. Tonight I "killed" the watcher in the dream...and felt a lot of remorse for having tried to "kill" the one I wanted him to represent. In fact my heart is breaking for the harm I've done to him. I must truly love him.

So...before writing this post, I asked the Yi, "Now that they're all dead...what next?" And they answered 42.1.4.6 to 45. I need help with this one. I don't really understand line 4 and I don't like line 6 at all. And I'm too exhausted to think any more anyway..."killing" is hard work...*grin*

I don't know what to make of 42 to 45. Have to let it sink in.
One thing I noticed, however, is that the two women of 16 (the trigram earth, the mother) and 54 (the trigram lake, the youngest daughter) are now together in hexagram 45.

Cool dream. Yeah, this is old news, but I like dreams.

You got two people in that dream who aren't being straight with each other: the woman's not committing and engaging, and the guy's pretending, so they're not connecting, not getting together.

46.3's about stepping up into an unknown reality that's waiting to be occupied by you, so if the oracle's answering your question directly, it's telling you to take that step into the unknown.

Finally, a comment: you asked what he's waiting for you to do. Your question is wondering what the other person wants you to do, rather than wondering what you want to do.

How absolutely fortunate for me you decided to respond to this old dream. Thank you! It was very important that I revisit this dream, and your analysis is very illuminating. If you read the whole thread you might have noticed that a good deal of the input here distorted the big picture. It did, but to a good end. I dealt with the feeling of disempowerment as a result of the distortion... but I was never really deflected very far from my path.

When I woke from the dream I strongly felt the man watching and waiting presented my Great Man. But the man in the dream, the last man I loved before I met my Great Man had indeed attempted to disempower me in reality, and my relationship with him was the reason I decided I needed professional help and went into therapy, so... as a result of some of the input here I was able to go back and face that disempowerment and deal with it.

I know because of three susbsequent dreams that I didn't post to this forum (to avoid further distortion and deflection) that my initial feelings about this dream were right, and that he is, indeed a representation for my Great Man. The first two featured him again, but events have unfolded since them that let me know he's no longer on my path and that he merely stood as a representation.

In the first dream after this one, he was helping me prepare for the Queen's ceremonial walk up the mountain. It was a rugged craggy and steep path up, and I was her stand-in, taking the walk before her ceremony, testing the path looking for the best safest route for her to take, so there'd be no mishaps during the ceremony. He wanted to lay carpet on the path, and I told him I thought it was a bad idea because the carpeting might disguise crevices into which she could fall if she stepped on the carpeting laid over them. This dream brings to mind your very aware statement, "Your question is wondering what the other person wants you to do, rather than wondering what you want to do."

It seems my lessons from the force behind the Yi and me since this dream have answered that question. I imagine what he wanted me to do was to get to the point I know what I want to do... *grin*
