I think we should create a Market Index for rare Yi books...

I'm sure Richard Smith must be having a belly-laugh about this... :D

I'm disappointed to see this seller has just the one book on offer. No negotiating for a discount on postage, then.

Is that book worth picking up? (Not at that price though...)

Certainly not at that price!!! :D As for if it is worth picking up, depending where your studies of the Yijing take you, I would say yes. I'm always looking for, let's say, obscure historical sources and literature about the Yi, so for me, this is one I would like to have.

Choice: buy that book, or use the same amount of money to buy the biggest Yi library in a radius of 1000 km. Hmm.... choices, choices.

Well, pick a place like Lewistown, Montana and stay away from New Jersey. Apart from myself, there is Lorraine Patsco and Glenroy Wolfsen, with a serious amount of Yi related books that would cost you a bit more than a thousand bucks to buy (if they were for sale, of course...) :D

But Montana''s within a thousand miles of my library, also worth WAY more than a thousand. I suspect Lorraine's is still the ultimate English language collection. But I believe there are some Yixue libraries in China over 3000 volumes.

As to Rich's book, have you shared this with him? That's hysterical. Last time the subject came up, he said HE didn't even have a copy. But I got one thru interlibrary loan and xeroxed the relevant chapters. It's good - at least worth the price of xeroxing it.

Okay, so now it's 'currently unavailable'. Does that mean it was sold?

Whoever bid on that doesn't know about ABE, which has two, starting at US$ 50.

You are right. Madness or carelessness with their money. I've noticed though that people is paying good money for rare Yi books. It must mean that a lot more people is paying attention to the Yi and seriously studying it (and are not around here...)

I have a fun program that lets me watch what countries that people who download my Yijing come from (but I don't get any more data than that). Of course this just points to the readers in English. It's really gratifying to see that interest in Yixue is so global. After the US and US universities, the most interest seems to be from (in order) Brasil, Australia, The Netherlands, Argentina, The U.K., Singapore, Italy, Germany and Canada. But I even get a few visitors every week from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Some countries are lost to the tally, though, because they are lumped together in a big "unresolved/unknown" category, so I can't tell how well our English studies are finding an interest in China. In all, I think the Yi is probably good to go for a few thousand more years.
