I did another reading about this relationship, asking "what can I expect if I pursue a romance with M?" and got 55.1.5>31.

What are people's ideas and experiences with these lines of 55 and the resulting 31? When I read the lines they are about joining with someone of like mind and gathering men of brilliant ability around and good fortune and praise/congratulation. And 31 is about influence. The relationship has not changed so much as I've been thinking about how I feel about it (from the prior 22.4 reading) and what I want from it and what is possible with it.
What's the praise about?
I read some threads on here about 55 and about 31.
It's sometimes hard to figure this stuff out when it's about you, so any help, insights, opinions, etc would be appreciated.

Well, your relating hexagram is H31, and that means that you are both mutually emotionally responsive. I like the name Emotional Responsiveness for H31 or Emotional Sensitivity. One usually feels this in the body; it's not something abstract. This is the context in which you are asking your question. It is not necessarily the result.

H55.1 means you meet someone and it would be good to work together for a specific purpose. There is that about this line. It seems there has to be a goal or purpose.

Some translations say that it's okay to associate with an equal for a complete cycle of time, whatever that is in your case -- but that after that ??? I have that question myself about H55.1.

H55.5 means, I think, that you need to seek advice and there is excellent advice available.

Going back to H55.1, it is said that both people are 'yang,' or both strong-minded people. It is said that one yang will not follow another yang, that only yin will consistently follow yang. But two yangs can associate quite productively if there is a good reason for them to continue to associate with each other.

Yang does not mean male, and yin does not mean female, in other words. A female can be yang and a male can be yin. I understand that originally the words 'yang' and 'yin' were not gendered. Those distortions only came later. Two yangs can be two males, two females, or one female and one male. I just thought I'd clear that up; otherwise it might be confusing.

Thank you--your interpretation raises a few more questions for me...are you referring to a purpose other than the purpose of pursuing a romantic relationship? So would Yi be saying, 'go for a business model or artistic endeavor' or something concrete like that? Not romance?

M and I really click--we do have a strong, "underneath connection"--not mind to mind but something else, something like heart to heart maybe. We can read each other's emotions perfectly like it is a language we both get. We have a shorthand with looks, touches, gestures and glances that we don't even have to speak in order to communicate. We laugh at exactly the same things, at exactly the same moment. Others have commented about our connection.

I have to think more about the strong-minded note you talked about. We are both, M and I, strong-minded about different things, different aspects of our relating together and I wonder if there's a way to harmonize that energy for a greater good...that's what came to me in what you said.

I was asking the Yi for help to characterize the relationship for me since it's really cool and wonderful and fascinating to me and other times just plain confusing; I want to deepen the relationship to a more intimate level and I'm not sure how. I figured my intention would be enough to tell me how...
