Hexagram 51 Shock and....Love??

Hello Everyone,

firstly, I am happy to be here and to have found this forum!

I have been casting and using the I ching for a while now and find it to be the most accurate form of divination I have ever experienced. That is.....when I am sure to interpret the readings correctly.

So, after doing around 200 different i ching readings I got Hexagram 51, Shock for the first time two days ago and then, got it AGAIN today regarding the same issue.

It is about a man.

I asked a question about a man's (who i care about) possible infatuation with me and I got Hexagram for Harmony.

For some reason I felt that the i ching was trying to tell me that I could be dealing with something deeper than infatuation so I breated deeply and dared to ask:

"Is he already in love with me?"

That is when I got Hexagram 51, Shock..for the first time.

Today, something external happened that I feel will draw his attention to me. So I cast again and I asked, "What will soon be his feelings for me?" and I got it again! Hexagram 51!

Could someone help me understand this?

Recently I also got Hexagram 30, "clinging like fire" when I asked "what is it he truly wants from me". But I took that to mean that he wants me to "cling" to him, but not necessarily because he feels for me. Have I underestimated things?

Please, can someone help me understand what this Hexagram 51, Shock, is trying to tell me?

The result: Hexagram 51 Shock had a changing line, the changing line was 6
The full reading also provided a future hexagram related to this one, it was Hexagram 21, Cutting through..which from what I understand implies an awareness of truth, of what reality is and means getting past previous misunderstandings.

"Is he already in love with me?"

Hex 51.6 it suggests that he is indeed in love with you. Ask his friends.

Hex 21 says that he is facing some kind of obstacle that is preventing him from forming a relationship, but that it is up to him to remove that obstacle by taking a firm stand in the issue. So, its all up to him now.

Hi Willowfox,

wow..you really read that correctly. But I just couldn't see it all.
Actually, he is in another unhappy relationship, this is why I stopped seeing him. I agree with you that it is up to him to remove the obstacle. HOW did you know this? or I mean, how did you interpret it so accurately? Can you explain? And about his friends, I asked the i ching last week what advice his closest friend has given him and I got, "Hexagram 52, Keeping Still".

"I agree with you that it is up to him to remove the obstacle. HOW did you know this? or I mean, how did you interpret it so accurately? Can you explain?"

I think this was easy for an experienced diviner like WF; just look the relating hex (21).

About 51.6 I would add that, since the question is related to this guy, he is experiencing some kind of shock and changes, so maybe he is in love

However he could be a bit confused, quoting WB:

"When inner shock is at its height, it robs a man of reflection and clarity of
vision. In such a state of shock it is of course impossible to act with presence
of mind"

one last question to get a grasp on the situation

Thank you for both of your replies. I don't want to "wear out my welcome" here by overwhelming you both with questions but I do have just one last one regarding the next hexagram to help me get a grasp on the situation...if that's OK ..

I sat here this afternoon trying to clear my head a bit and considered your responses. Since I can't contact the guy right now, and feel that I should NOT contact him right now..I should wait...I cast again this afternoon (then decided to take a break from the subject)

I asked, "What is he going through RIGHT now regarding me?" and I got Present Hexagram 6, "Conflict" with changing Line 3 which resulted in a future, related hexagram of 44, "meeting" or "liason". Do you think that "liason" implies only a temporary romantic "fling"? Are there different ways of interpreting this?

I am also curious to understand why the hexagram is Hex 6.3 what the whole picture entails instead of just seeing it as two phases...conflict followed by a brief liason.. there seems to be a missing link..

and this whole thing is starting to stunn me..51 keeps coming, twice more now. I asked how he feels about his other relationship, and got 51, with the first changing line being 1 and the second changing line being 5. Then I asked, "is it me that he loves" and got 51 again!!!! But this time 51 with The first changing line is line 1,The second changing line is line 3,The third changing line is line 4.

It's not freaking me out yet...but it's definately making my eyebrows raise. I wish one of my close friends did I ching so we could discuss it...

Hi Laylab,

Quite a potent situation you have here - lots of energies building up in every direction. It's no surprise you got 6.3 i answer to this question. The poor guy seems to be going through a battle regarding you that's for sure. Line 3 is quite encouraging if he can be strong and see it through. He may feel differently in a few days - it may be much more clear cut - or quite the reverse.

44 doesn't necessarily mean he sees it as a possible liason. It may also mean he interprets this as both a gift and a horror. In other words, he may be head-over-heels for you but dislikes the inevitable disruption and pain this will mean if he does change the situation. And sure, it may all be about chemicals and powerful desire and not much . Or, if it this is the birth pangs of a loving relationship then sincerity, strength of will and patience is vital. But you better be sure that this is what you want too.

Very difficult waiting but I think things will become clearer one way or the other. The choices are predominantly his side of the fence right now.

The IC is saying calm down here. Keep things simple and work on your own "stuff." Slow down and let things flow. If there's blockages then that can't happen. Don't force it. Deeeeep breath...Work on the things in yourself that may be resticting the natural reality from manifesting then this will place you in the company of those you're meant to be with - this guy or another.

Line 4 from Wihelm: "But if in humility he can bring himself to the point of giving them up, [faults] he frees his well-disposed friends from an inner pressure and causes them to approach the more quickly, and there is mutual joy"

ahhh..it's perhaps telling ME to decrease, to chill out...and that too much focus on this is only youthful folly on my part? Makes good sense actually.

Sometimes it is interesting how I can ask the i ching about someone or something else but it, the IC responds like a wise friend, telling me to focus on my issues...

May I ask, How long have you been studying the IC Topal?

Hex 6.3 he is having to keep a low profile regarding you but in his heart he knows that he has done the right thing so now out of necessity he must keep quiet. His relationship is probably suffocating him, he can't breathe but he must persevere in his silence and all will be well in the end.

Hex 44 says that he has encountered a woman who does not mean him well, she has seduced him into a relationship and now he is struggling. He now knows that he has made a big mistake and it is up to him to break the bonds before they become too strong. This relationship was not meant to last but if he were to carry on with her it would prove to be a very unfortunate mistake. So, all this time he realizes that he is in a bad situation and thinks of you but has to keep his mouth closed. He suffers in silence, this one. He most likely thinks about you most of the time but is trapped in a prison of his own making. He must break the chains by himself.

Well, I've used the I Ching - on and off - for about 15 years in total. But I would say I only really started to study and respect the knowledge in this book in the last couple of years.

I'll also say that for the last four months, since I joined Clarity, my understanding has been expanded to a great degree by all the wise folks here and their many and enriching interpretations. That's the beauty of networking - an IC principle!

The beauty of it is that when new persons come in and share just as you have laylab, we all benefit because we are all still learning however long we've been studying. The IC, like life, is just an infinite set of lessons eh?

Hex 41.4 says that if he will break the bond with her then he will join with you.

Hex 38 suggests that he will leave her.

yes you are right about the exchange of knowledge and wisdom..would it be right to assume that most of the people on this site are also students of the Tao?

About this situation. I am staying away from him, working on myself, with my synchronicity with the universe..because I have no intention of trying to make a man see me as some "better choice". I am not sure there even is such a thing. So I wait.
But, as this thread is evidence, I wait in anticipation, looking for answers from the I ching that I know I can not get from him or from my own clouded view of reality (at the moment)

I have been looking through the forums, it's encouraging to see how many others have the same questions, the same concerns..

Well, confession time: from what you said this can be applied to you too certainly, and that is how I interpreted it but I misread your last question to say: "will I leave my other relationship?"

My mistake (bit tired)

So, the 41 question is much more likely to refer to the man in question, so I'd go with WF on that.

We are ALL students of the Tao... even if we don't know it!

I see nothing in these readings to suggest this man is in love with you or that he will leave the other woman for you. He may do but these readings could be interpreted many ways.

51,6 could easily just mean theres alot of trouble, maybe emotional storms around you it may be well to steer cleare of.

41,4 could mean that things improve, through improved behaviour between him and his current lady.

I've seen people here be bitterly disapointed when they have totally believed in predictions and they haven't manifested. I know because they have PMd me., I think it makes the situation worse for them.

Just advising you, though I know i sound a killjoy here, that i don't agree with these predictions as a certainty.

Just in case the comment could be useful

a) If you read closely, you could find that WF tends to give hopeful answers when the issue is "does he love me?" and when the question is "is this the right job for me?". Please beware of false hopes.

b) Regarded your situation; I would dare to sugest you a little more order. Instead of asking for others, ask first about yourself; before ask the future, understand the present.

So, I would suggest you to make this diaologue with the Yi, following this order:
1.- General diagnosis of the relation between X and I
2.- How is my position within the relation
3.- How is X's position within the relation

This answers could give you more clarity.

thanks for that advice, I think you are right.

I asked some questions related more to how I should behave and to my position and I got the following:

How Does X feel about (notice I said, "about" and not "for") me?
Present Hexagram: 7 Army
There are several Changing Lines, which indicates a relatively unstable situation with regard to the question.
The first changing line is line 1
The second changing line is line 3
The third changing line is line 4
The fourth changing line is line 5
The fifth changing line is line 6

I also asked:

"How can I draw him to me?" Answer: Hex 19 The Approach

Thinking that I feel I should not be the one to "approach" HIM I asked:

"Should I approach him or wait for him to approach?"
The answer was: Hex 12 Standstill

I take that as a pretty obvious answer

Why will he approach me again?
Answer: Hex 46 Pushing Upward with changing line 6 leading to Hexagram 18, Repairing what is soiled.

When I ask about my best course of action I get: Hexagram Receptive
when I ask what will happen between he an dI if I following the IC advice I get: "Following"

I agree that there is some kind of storm around him that I am not seeing because I have cut off contact. All I can do is sit back, "stand still". And by the way, that was not the first time that I got the Army Hexegram in regards to him. I suspect that it refers to the tactic that he is using to get a grasp on and or control of, the situation.

There is really nothing left for me to cast..jus have to wait. But I will definately report here on the forum how things turn out in the end. It will be a curious exercise for everyone to see what reality actually unfolds.

Sorry Wfox but this worries me. How can you possibly know if this guy will fall for her. Surely you must have seen here by now that some times what you say will happen for sure does not happen. For example you told a young man he would get a job for sure and he did not get it. He was very disappointed. Can you not see to lead someone to raise their expectations with certain promises only makes their fall come harder if it comes ? Please don't take this as a personal attack, it isn't, I just don't understand that you don't seem to consider how people feel when what you have forecast does not come true.

A genuine question for you -what makes you think you know the future of these people so surely ? Aren't you concerned how people will feel when your predictions of them getting a dream job/relationship don't happen ? You don't lay out liklihoods or possibilities you tell people what will happen and some people seem to swallow it wholesale. I guess some would say well thats their problem, but I worry its the more vulnerable people that may believe it more. Online we have no way of knowing if someones vulnerable or not. I don't really have an issue with any other area of your writing here - but this that I bought up here again it genuinely worries me.

Mostly i have to ignore it but it still concerns me - still I have no wish to pick a fight about it.

There is no reason to suppose 17,6 means he will fall for you Laylab and I suggest you look to reality rather than the Yi for a moment cos it seems to me you're using the Yi to shore up a picture of what you want to be . If he is in love with you, infatuated with you wouldn't he be trying to communicate that to you ?

To me 17,6 could as easily means hes already sacrificed his liason with you to be with her. The question is so loaded it can't really be a useful answer - unless you feel in your heart intuitively you know what it means.

You didn't really ask the questions Jesed suggested but again followed the track of asking about his feelings which isn't always the easiest way to figure out how to conduct yourself in a relationship.

I don't think he is in love with me. But I am pretty positive he is infatuated. The reason he is not communicating anything to me is that:

The reality of the situation is that he lives with a partner (not wife but as close as you can get) who got pregnant and they had a child two years ago. He and I came together but I ended it because he needs to either be with her or leave if he is unhappy. He wasn't expecting me to end it, I ended our relationship after a very intense 4 weeks and he was taken by surprise. But he has been in contact with me since,..he has written. I haven't responded to the mail yet. I am just waiting for something more concrete.

In the meantime, I don't know if I should respond or how. This is what this is all about, I need to know how to behave. Whether I should be receptive or completely ignore him. One thing I am absolutely sure of, (as are friends who got to see us together) is that he was/is completely smitten.

I think he is faced now with the reality that if he wants something different, it means unpleasant realizations and not living with his child anymore. He must also feel guilty, his partner has gained alot of weight and let herself go, but still, she gave him a child! I don't approve of the cheating (even though I know I participated in it)..people should make choices, you can not have your cake and eat it too.

You really need to get a book called 'Hes just not that into you' seems theres millions of women out there convinced a man is with someone else but he really wants to be with them. Its written in a jokey style but theres so much truth in it. I think the author of that book would say if he wanted to be with you not her he would be with you. Once you realise that and get over the pain barrier you can move on to someone who can actually make you happy. You know hes a liar and a cheat already, what hes done to her he'll sure enough do to you won't he ?

So hes living with someone else who has his child but you're building your hopes on how he feels by the answers of the Yi - uurgh spells disaster and misery to me -

Hey but I'm well aware I'm being very judgemental and just giving my own non Yi related view here - I'm sorry, I could be totally wrong and maybe there is some kind of future for you with him - how would I know, no one knows for sure - I was just trying to damp down the fever of expectation I felt you were being encouraged here to develop. I've found 51 comes up alot when I'm 'all shook up' and excited over someone - doesn't necessarily mean they're excited back :rolling:

I think it might be a good idea to ask exactly the questions Jesed suggested so you get a more objective picture of the relationship.

LOL, not only do I have that book but I have bought copies for friends for Christmas!

This is not exactly one of those situations. I never chased him, he chased me. He didn't break up with me, I broke up with him and I am not contacting him now, he is the one doing the contacting.

I like him alot and I see that he likes me. But I am not willing to run after a guy or be with a guy that is not 100% with me. It only took me four weeks to figure that out. This has not been dragging on.

The interest I have here, in using the I ching for some answers is to understand what is truly potentially possible. It has only been 10 days since I ended things with him..
If I see that he will not make changes in his life, then I won't need to ask the IC one more thing, because I already know how to behave if t hat is the case. this is a matter of curiousity. Of intense interest in fact.

And yes, when a man calls me and text me 5 to 7 times a day, is constantly taking me out, writing me and chatting with me...he IS into me..at 30 something, that I know

I have received gifts, wonderful love making, nights out on the town, constant calls. And I felt equally intense.

BUT

I knew, that if I want him to realize that he can't have his cake and eat it to, t hat I had to SUDDENLY end it and cut myself off from him. If I had dragged it on, whining or complaining, that would have only made me and him miserable.

I feel like things will clarify in the next two weeks. Right now I am not even in the same city..I left the country for a bit to visit friends.

I am a little unclear as to the i chings ability to predict the future as much as it does just generally explain a current situation; Although, Determinism implies that if one could see ALL that has ever occured in the universe, every action and reaction, big and small, then one would know all that will ever happen in the future. Of course, no human can know this, only the universe can...but the universe may not be interested in keeping such excellent records.

Somehow I feel that by using the I ching i am just communicating with my subconscious and with the universe..like the i ching is a link between my subconscious (which I cannot normally access) and the universe..

So..I see it more as my wise grandmother...she couldnt always tell the future, but she was right most of the time. Only thing is, she didnt speak in riddles or symbols..she would say, "whack that man over the head and go about your business girl!" lol

I have to say though, I would really like someone to explain the meaning of Hex 7 The Army more. Willow was the only one who mentioned it.

Whether to do with this particular situation or not, I just don't understand that Hexagram
