A place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands stole my heart some time ago. It has been abandoned for at least the 10 years that Ive been passing by it. There is a garage/ workshop below the apartment with big doors that open onto the street- it is a great old neighbourhood close to the city center . With some love time and work it could be glorious.

I decided after having not become any wiser through frequently asking friends and acquaintances that live in same street & those close to go ahead and figure out who it belongs to and contact them to inquire about renting possibilities. I was lead swiftly to the information that the apartment is under the administration of the Jewish Cultural Quarter. The occupants in the time of the war would have been victimized by the nazis, and possibly their neighbours.

My initial reaction was to shut down the plans of pursuing it altogether. I consulted IC with question

what do i need to know about opportunities for me @ burgemeester roosstraat 6b ---> hex 20.4> 12

I have trouble understanding line 4. It seems particularly abstract.

Also since being corrected in my tendency to look with equal importance at 12.4 I have become unsure as to the significance of the changed hex and especially the line.

Any thoughts at all?

Would be grateful

'Seeing the realm shining out.
Fruitful and useful to be a guest of the king.'

My guess, not knowing the laws about it, is that "the king" might mean "the government," (or the Jewish Cultural Quarter - is that part of the government? - it might not matter much for interpretation). You might be able to be their "guest" in this apartment (rent it), but could there be special rules maybe about what you can and can't do with it or to it? Maybe more stringent than most apartments?

12.4 -
'There is a mandate, no mistake.
Work with clarity, fulfilment.'

I'm not sure giving "equal importance" to the fan yao is quite right, but the way this reading sounds to me - speculation! - is that 20.4 is giving you the objective answer, and 12.4 is more personal, how you'll "relate" to it, or the approach you should take. You have a mandate (which Hilary points out might mean some work), you might need "clarity" on various things, maybe finding out what the regulations are and what would be required of you. Maybe the reason it's specifically talking about "fulfillment" is that getting to the end of this won't be the simplest thing in the world - if it was, it might not have to be mentioned?

Hi Liselle,
As I understand it, it is a virtual monument- the website an archive honoring 4000+ households forced out of their homes, to remember, but also intended as a source of information for their surviving Children.
The Jewish quarter has no actual relation to the building in terms of authority or influence I believe.
The owner i have Discovered is the city council, which is favorable for initial intent.
Perhaps i am taking it too seriously, but somehow feels like a serious responsibility!
I like your way of thinking, seeing the two hex as two vantage points the one being objective, the other subjective, very cool... thank you

I think I see what you mean, that living there would feel like a special "mandate" perhaps (to quote your reading!)

I do think the reading is encouraging :). Your moving line says, "fruitful and useful" - maybe (more speculation) better you to live there, since you'd appreciate it and honor it, than someone who wouldn't?
"Fulfillment" in the fan yao - maybe it means living there would be fulfilling for you? (I realize I've already assigned two different meanings to "fulfillment" - sorry - this is how the I Ching tends to be...)

Maybe that's what "see the realm shining out" is getting at, too, that you'd actually "see" the history and its significance? Or something like that, I'm not being articulate. I think it's a lovely line for living there, though, if it's something you want to do.

Also, I don't think the reading says this would be an overwhelming burden. I thought maybe there'd be extra regulations, but it seems you're saying not. I'd think if this apartment was so historical and precious to the point where you'd feel you can't sneeze in it (or something), it wouldn't be available for rent at all. Maybe just a little more aura of respect than with some other apartment?

Hi Liselle,
I spoke with my sisters about the matter, they called me out on my fear of 'bad juju' :flirt: & suggested I could honor the family with a plaque for eg.
The idea sits so well with me that my hesitation to press on after receiving a positive call back from housing association has vanished and I will be on the phone first thing monday.

Thank you so much for your time

Kind regards
