How often has the I Ching told you that your query isn't worth focusing on, and rather, chew about this, instead?

How often has the I Ching declined to answer your main query, but has instead given you an answer for something else it considers more important to be focused on?

For example, such as me asking about the outcome of the US protests / riots / looting, etc ~ the I Ching replied with 15.6 > 52. Unsure, I asked about that answer. 61. The I Ching didn't think that was worth me worrying about ~ instead, focusing on myself was far more important.

I have pondered this a bit myself. On the one hand, it seems like it would be good if we had an oracle or divination system that was looking out for our best interest, e.g. 'you asked about this, but you really should be paying attention to that.'

But on the other hand, it seems like a good idea to have an oracle that actually answers the questions we put to it.

For now, I'm going to go with the second option, and offer a different scenario: ...

You asked about the outcome of the US protests, and got 15.6> 52 as a response. And since you didn't understand the answer (which is different than the oracle not answering your question), you then asked again and got 61. And from this you think the I Ching is telling you something like, 'just ignore your first question and the first response, and instead, look within yourself' - do I have that about right?

But I'm thinking that 15.6>52 might actually be a direct response to your question, but it's just one you don't understand, yet. And when you asked again, I look at 61 in a different way:

Some names for 61 are 'the truth within' and inner truth'. This is reflected in the imagery of the hexagram, where you have two broken lines in the middle, surrounded - or within - two solid lines each on the top and bottom.

So, I can see 61 as advising you to 'look within' the first answer you got - and try to understand it, ... instead of bypassing it and making the answer be about something it's not - and something you did not even ask about.

So, perhaps the 'truth within' is within 15.6>52 - which is related to what you asked about; and it is not the 'truth within you', which was not the subject of your query. I can see the Yi saying, 'I answered your question, so slow down, and go back and take a more careful look at (and within) the first response you got'.

All the best ....
