10 hexagram in response to relationship question

Hello all!

I recently had an unpleasant fight with my boyfriend where there was a huge upset that included provocation and jealousy.....and my question to the IChing was,

"What is the best course of action for me to take to promote harmony, love and intimacy between X and I at this time???"

I got hexagram 10 with changing lines,

1.3.4.5.6. (some of them contradict each other!)

changing to hexagram 46 (pushing upward)

It seems to me that 46 is ultimately a positive hexagram if one 'pays dues' so to speak. My main question is....What the heck does hexagram 10 mean? What exactly should I be doing at this time (or not be doing) in terms of "treading carefully"??

Does this mean I should call him or lay low for a while...

really needing some advice from some of the experts...

thank you so much for your time and energy!!!

love!

look at line 2 of hex 10 it does not move so its the only one to look at.
Stay unconnected in this issue ,like a peace full hermit.changes to 25 if you are not as you should be like line 2 hex 10 them misfortune is the result.

If I only look at the hexagrams it would seem that certain issues are surfacing now in your relationship (46). This is certainly not a bad thing and it is bound to happen when a relationship deepens and the partners become more and more intimate.
I think hexagram 10, taken as an advice, says that it's probably best to be careful with "hot" topics that might again cause conflict for a while. Perhaps it's wise to avoid a direct confrontation about these issues now. Later you two may be able to work through them in a softer and more relaxed athmosphere.

When you get that many active lines in a hex, it's often useful to de-emphasize the individual lines because there are so many to track and because they often contradict each other, as you pointed out. Which means that you are left with the primary hex and the relating hex. So if you take that approach, the answer to your question is something like: "Watch your step, so that no injury is done, and you move to a higher level." Which, if I understand relationship and communication and emotion at all, means something like: "It's okay to feel jealous, cuz that comes up sometimes, but don't throw your weight around with the provocations and the recriminations. Deal with the resentful emotions, and you move the tone up a notch."
