Hello, I have enjoyed visiting this site and gleaning a lot of insight into the i ching from all you more experienced visitors. This is my first contribution so please humbly accept my attempt to read this I ching cast based on my limited experience.

I was concerned about Climate Change so I wondered how to help. I Ching responded 11>2

11.1 we are all in this together and it is a complex issue
11.2 we might have to change our ways and stay at home more - maybe less socialising
11.3 appreciate the simple things like eating and drinking especially when times are hard

I wonder what you all think.

11.1.2.3 - 2 : I find the question and the answer pretty great!
Hexagram 11 (the earth and the sky) : "The hexagram indicates the presence in nature of an era when the sky is somehow on earth. The sky has placed itself under the earth. Thus the two principles unite their virtues in an intimate harmony."
Line 1: "Everyone according to their species": join an environmental association and rub shoulders with environmentalists like you.
Line 2: "to gently endure the rusty": become aware et endure the climato-septics!! The hidden risk of doing nothing... Find the right balance of action!
Line 3: "Everything that is earthly is subject to change. Prosperity is followed by decadence. This is the eternal law on earth... As long as the inner being remains stronger and richer than external happiness, as long as we remain inwardly superior to destiny, happiness remains faithful to us. » (Wengu Tartarie) So, enjoy the happiness you still have !

Well... you can't prevent climate change, it is already happening. And different variations of it happening (ie. without human influence) have always been.

Honestly, as I'm currently in the USA, the effect of everybody staying at home has increased plastic waste and un-environmentally friendly consumer consumption. Less socialising is not at all helpful, creates more depression and people turn to online buying, which equals more emissions due to delievry and more packaging. All things which negatively impact the balance of climate.

This kind of question actually deserves a non yi jing reading answer, and education on climate change would be key. If you really want to make a difference, get a science degree in a corresponding field and do good work, or get into a field where you can change policy. Grow your own food, and make your own food for every meal. Walk everywhere. Leave zero waste or at the very least recycle everything. Don't get anything delivered. Never fly on a plane. Live off-grid. Vote wisely. Stay educated.

However, there would only be a big difference if everybody was doing this and there was a significant decrease in human population on earth. And on this note it is wise to look to your reading and escape my grim point of view, 11 --> from little things big things grow, give something up. line 1 --> what matali said. Or even better join a profession and work in the area of addressing climate change. Line 2 --> Start by solving the problem of rubbish dumps, waste! Line 3 --> Look at the larger cycles of climate, work hard at this and whatever you produce (the food) is good fortune.

11.1 We're all in this together.
11.2 Live as you feel is right regardless of what others may or may not do.
11.3 Climate change is already upon us. It's already too late to prevent the inevitable. Enjoy life as best you can.
2. What ever will be will be.

It's not exactly to do with the answer but surely one thing people can do is stop having so many children. This is never talked about in saving the planet, the issue of population rarely seems to come up but the fact is climate change has happened because we are over populated. If there weren't so many people we wouldn't need to keep destroying land for housing and pumping out products. I mean it's just one factor but a seemingly taboo one.

I don't think Yi gives much of a fcuk about climate change according to this answer. It's telling you not to worry and that everything that goes around comes around (line 3). I guess line 2 tells you to travel light, don't accumulate what you don't need. Line 1 yes it's all connected. And then 2 well this is a very restful answer, it all goes to earth.

Whilst I'm not denying there is climate change I'm not convinced the planet itself doesn't know what it's doing, it's not daft. We have a virus that can wipe us out and that would be wonderful for the environment, the world never looked better those first weeks of lockdown without everybody trying to get somewhere else other than where they live. There can be other viruses that will wipe us out, we aren't all such a special species we can't be wiped out instantly.

So do what you can, don't take totally unnecessary holidays abroad and all that but also you can trust in Gaia I think. Now I did read about a plastic eating bug somewhere and I thought that would be brilliant if a plastic eating bug evolved and who knows what can evolve.

So I think we do our bit to tread lightly and make reparations if we can but all the time with some trust in the intelligence of our planet earth, hexagram 2.

Your answer is 'Flow on Earth'. She births everything and receives everything.

Side comment - I read about the plastic eating bug too once. What ever became of that? It didn't occur to me at the time but now while we're wondering if covid-19 came from some man made genetically altered gene it occurs to me that what would we do if a plastic eating bug got loose? OMG! Worse than locus!

Anyway, I also read somewhere that the earth can only happily, healthily, support 500,000 people. How can we turn things around? Mother Earth's solution seems to be to send viruses.

A plastic eating bug would be fantastic especially if aquatic. It could clear the oceans and the land variety could clear the land.

Yeah but how would you keep it from eating even the plastic you do want?

a cool webpage of graphs explaining climate change from 65 million years ago

Another page by same author explaining the future of our solar system and the universe in timelines, publish 2012, based on info of that time

In terms of the plastic eating bacteria, just make sure they come from England and they'll be too polite to eat your wanted plastic without first getting consent from her majesty, who is likely to outlive us all and perhaps even witness andromeda colliding with the milky way, because she'll have downloaded her consciousness into a robot and will probably be riding a chariot of asteroids weaving in and out of the new star formations, orchestrating the celestial sounds of the spheres to sing ' God Save the Queen'.

In terms of population, apparently having more children is the answer, so many of my frineds have gotten lockdown pregnant. Who knows, maybe more people, more plastic, and more all round will create enough excess matter on earth that we can create our own planet from it all, birth it from the earth itself much like how the moon was formed, but bigger and inhabited by all humans born after 1981. ;)

Hello sunharmony,
It has been interesting to read the replies you have been sent. One thing missing, is that although it is a question with worldwide consequences, you asked only how YOU can help, and I Ching's reply is for you and not necessarily for others. Some of us are shy and retiring, others of us are activists able and willing to take on the world. I think your interpretation is entirely correct, as it would be for many. There are so many children who have learned what is happening and are now being traumatised by great fear of climate change threatening their futures. It is unfair for others to answer as if it was a general question.
A couple few weeks ago I asked the I Ching such a question:

I asked 'How will the world go tackling climate change?'
59.2.4.5.>35
I asked this after listening to a radio interview with a climate scientist and his latest book on the subject. In spite of all the negatives, I thought he was surprisingly optimistic, arguing that it was not too late to make the necessary changes.
I had been quite pessimistic, but Yi seems to be saying that it is possible. Hopefully I am not reading too much into it:
59. DISPERSING
Dispersing suggests that it involves massive disorienting change, but that it is worthwhile if we keep at it.
2 Dispersing, flee to your support, Regrets vanish.
People, governments, realise the urgency of the situation and that the real support will come by making the right decisions (which my country, Australia, is so far refusing to do).
4 Dispersing your flock, from the source, good fortune.
Letting go of what used to bring us wealth and security. Be willing to let it go for greater success in the future.
Dispersing gains the hilltop, no barbarian has occasion to think of this.
Perhaps by letting go of past ideas of success, a new vantage point is found because those who are willing to accept the science can see the different scenarios for the future, and can see what must be done. Many, the 'barbarians', are still in denial.
5. Dispersing sweat, his great proclamation
(Hopefully) this means that the UN and climate conference decisions mean that countries are able to make difficult and binding global agreements.
Dispersing the king's residence, not a mistake.
I am not sure about this line. Maybe governments need to be prepared to forget about balancing the budget and release more funds to address climate change.
>35 ADVANCING
It looks like we have been given a gift of horses, (the ability to make the right decisions worldwide?) but we have to act now if we want to advance. To me this seems to be the main caveat in the whole thing. If we don't make the right decisions ASAP, it will all be to no avail.
So, this was a question that did not ask for a response from me personally, but was a question enquiring about the global response required for making the necessary changes.

Enjoy your eating and drinking!
