"How should I approach the problem of finding accommodation next year?"

(I'm starting my MA in January and am going back to Uni, but don't know anyone in the area and am not eligible to apply for the on-campus accommodation)

Line 19.1 indicates that you will find help with people also looking for accommodation, or with second or third year students who "know" where to look or "know" someone. Also, look at the message board at the uni. for tips and place a message yourself. In college towns its useful to know people.

Line 19.5 Indicates the need to seek help from people/students in the "know" about accommodation in that town, the so called "experts" are those people who have wandered the streets looking. Like the people who write guidebooks for backpackers.
