On this forum we read a lot about people who lead others on then ghost, lie, turn out to be taken, etc.
So I asked the I Ching:
How is the attitude of someone who approaches you with genuine intention? and got 22.1.4>56
Instead of using the social ornaments, he (she) gets ready to beautifully take the simple way with simple adornments. Such a person may hesitate for a while, but isn't after his own interests at any cost to others- like a robber. He'll finally declare his love and enter the unknown territory.
That said, I'm not sure about the meaning of hexagram 56.
What do you say?

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you're asking. Your question, 'How is the attitude .... ' seems incomplete or something. Could it be you're saying something like, 'What is the attitude ....?' Or, maybe 'What does genuine intention look like?' Or, 'how can I recognize someone's genuine intention?'

I think your assessment is absolutely correct, and very helpful as a rule of thumb. I think 56 may be implying that relationships with new people call for the caution of a “wanderer in a foreign land”.

56. A stranger who approaches you with good intention...
has the attitude of one who
22.1 puts forward an honest image of themselves
22.4 and treats you as an ally - does not want to deceive or take advantage of you (or be taken advantage of by you).

Reminds me of the Golden Rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you, or maybe "others do unto you as they would have you to do unto them."

Freedda, to be honest I can't see why you label my- and several other posters'- questions incomprehensible😕
I don't know whom these 'others' are (but I assume they can speak for themselves), and I didn't 'label' anything - that is not my genuine intention. I'm just asking for some clarification about your original question, which I don't understand:

How is the attitude of someone who approaches you with genuine intention?

As written, that sentence does not make sense to me, so I asked about it and proposed some alternatives. Starting with "How" makes it read like an incomplete sentence, and it seems that it should have more to it, for example: 'How is the attitude of someone who approaches you with genuine intention ... different than someone who ...?' - or some such thing.

So, that's why I asked, and I hope that makes what I'm saying clearer. If you offered a different way of saying it - or confirmed one of my options - that would likely help me get to what you're meaning is. Or not .....

The "this" referred to one of your options:

To rewrite the phrase, What is the attitude of someone who approaches you with genuine intention?
English isn't my native language and I don't pretend to write perfectly.
