Hello everyone,

I am living in a flat which I like very much, and it's one of the few I can afford in the expensive city where I live. The landlady told me I would have to go live somewhere else, since she needs the flat for his brother. this leaves me in a very bad position, because I can't afford nothing similar in this city, unless I'd share it with my partner. He wouldnt mind moving to live with me, but the truth is that we're both very independent and are ok living apart.
Yesterday I went to see a nice little house on the outskirts, like 25 miles away from where I work, and even though I loved the place and could see myself living there, it worries me the fact that I would depend on the bus to go to work and I would waste like 3 hours everyday commuting. The truth is I'm scared of changing my life so much. I asked the iching: What should I do regarding to the possibility of renting this house? And got Hexagram 23.5.6 to 8
It seems to indicate that there is a discordance between the places I'm looking at and what I would really want. On the other hand, line 5 seems auspicious to me. Line 6 says " Those who let go find reward, while those clinging to their attachments become lost." But does that refer to leeting go the house, or letting go the obstacles I see? I would appreciate any help. Thanks a lot. :)

What you are quoting is someone's commentary, you don't say who's commentary ? Commentary is someone's ideas about what Yi says, it's not actually what Yi says. So what yi says, from Hilary's translation is more like

'A ripe fruit not eaten.
Noble one gets a cart,
Small people strip their huts.'

...which yes does suggest you use this event in a creative way rather than regard it as a disaster. Small people, or the small person in you might want to hang on to how things are but they can't stay that way, some fundamental change is needed in your life. Personally I don't see this so much as a comment on the particular house but more like general advice on how you approach this situation. A ripe fruit still uneaten can be something valuable you take with you from the old situation. Maybe you just cannot go on living in the way you have been. Line 5 often shows favours through people you know and so on. Hexagram 8 here suggests to me you go where you feel naturally drawn. If you loved the house that sounds like a good hexagram 8 union...and are you sure you can't live with your partner, that you want to keep the same job and so on ? It's just I think what's happening for you is more than just a change of address, maybe a change of lifestyle too. I'm not saying the reading says you should live with him, it isn't specifying that but it does suggest this is more than a matter of packing your bags and living exactly the same life as you are now elsewhere.

Trojina, thak you so much for your reply; it is very interesting what you've pointed out. The thing is I've been visiting flats and houses here and there, and I always manage to find them faults, and I think it's because I don't know what I want to do with my life. Somehow, I flirt with the idea of changing my job, or even going to live abroad and start from scratch. But sometimes I want to stay and live with my partner, so everything is very confusing. Tonight I came to the conclusion that, if I don't know what I want, I will never know that I've found it. On the other hand, the place where I live should be the place that fits my circumstances, and not the other way round. In other words, living on this beautiful house doesn't make sense in the big scheme of my life as it is. So unless I'm prepared to change everything (which I am not), it would only make my life more complicated. So you were completely spot on with your reading. What I've been wondering and haven't been able to figure out is what would be a good question to ask to the iching to help me to cope with this situation.

Perhaps you might ask for a guiding principle to help you navigate these changes ? It sounds like you need to orientate yourself by asking initially bigger more over arching questions.

Thankd Trojina. I asked for a guide to help me face my current situation and got hexagram 2.1 .3.6 to 22. Hexagram 2 seems to suggest "no action" and let things develop naturally, which I find weird since I am forced to move, and this won't happen without me taking any action. Aldo line 2 seems to carry a warning sign that could indicate that things will get worse. As for the rest of the lines and the hexagram 22, seem very odd to me... Maybe I will let the reading rest and try to understand it later, because right now I feel completely puzzled :(

It's not the easiest cast to deal with is it. What I notice is people have a better connection with the oracle when they ask questions their way even though they may not look like very effective questions to others. So if the question I suggested didn't come naturally to you you'd need to adapt it to your own way of talking to Yi, just so the connection is there. That doesn't mean this reading 'doesn't count' but the most important thing is always your personal sense of connection with the Oracle and other's question formats can slightly get in the way.

Anyway hexagram 2 isn't saying 'don't do anything'. Allowing oneself to be guided, to be ready, like a mare sniffing the air, nose twitching to see which way to go, is not just doing nothing, it's being sensitive, receptive, following leads and hunches and sometimes other's thoughts too. I like this answer, it describes you 'sensing out' the situation, getting a feel for things, and perhaps all the time being aware of how appearances affect you since 22 is the relating hexagram.

Looking at the lines I feel there is more change calling to you than you consciously know of. 23.6 in the last reading highlighted that. You do need to be aware that choices you make now will become very solid conditions in the future (2.1) but you also must not become crippled by indecision (2.6) and also must not be too concerned with visible achievement or status...what you are doing is enough in line 3 though I don't know why Yi is saying this.

I'm not entirely sure how to see the 22 here but my sense of it you can be guided by your sense of beauty, what forms please you which admittedly sounds an odd basis for guidance but then we are initially drawn in by what we are attracted to. I had a similarish cast for a situation years ago where I met someone I just liked and so I got talking to her and through talking to her later got some work via her. I never would have got the work if I'd not talked to her and I wouldn't have talked to her so much if I wasn't attracted by her persona and demeanour. The image of a flower is often given for 22, Lise calls it 'pot of herbs' I think, will link to her site. Flowers attract insects through their display...so in your reading I think you are in the role of the insect...lets call you a bee :D being guided by (2) what attracts you, your sense of beauty, your aesthetic senses. 23.6 denotes some greater change but perhaps this can be enacted through you being guided by what is beautiful to you.

I reckon this may be a bit too airy fairy to be of use, maybe others will have some thoughts

Have a look at what Lise says on 22, she now calls it 'flower power' https://www.yijing.nl/i_ching/index.html

Perhaps 2.3 is advising you to start packing.

2.6 Could represent the difficulties of imagining a new life while your surroundings anchor you to the old.
2.1 You know change is coming and you gotta do it!

22. The vision of where to go from here will become more clear as you clear your space.

Thank you very much for your responses. That cast really got me confused and just felt like backing off and not thinking about the whole moving thing for a while. But I can't delay it much more, and even though I feel I'm "doing lots of things" (searching, visiting flats, considering the different possibilities...) I don't feel I'm putting my heart in it. For some reason, this obstacle seems to have the shape of an opportunity of changing many things, of making serious decisions about what I want. And I'm scared, because I don't have a clue of what I want (and I don't have much money either, which doesn't help). I don't want to end up living in a run-down area of the city, or in a nice village on the outskirts that would turn my life into a very stressing one because of the commuting time, and I can't see many more choices... :( That connects very well with rosada's interpretation of the cast, and although it surprised me when I read "Perhaps 2.3 is advising you to start packing.", today I was thinking that we all, more or less, feel tied to our belongings, and that if I had nothing at all I would probably feel freer up to the point that I'd consider quitting everything and start a new adventure abroad. The way I see it is: I have things, I need a place to store them and me, I have a job I dislike in order to pay for that space. And that's it. That's my life.
Oceangirl, I certainly need to sharpen my intuition; it's been blocked for a while now.
And Trojina, I like how you play down my always too extreme interpretations (Allowing oneself to be guided, is not just doing nothing, it's being sensitive, receptive".) And I've always seen hex. 22 as something related to beauty, but in a superficial kind of way. Trying to figure it out on my own these last days, I reached the conclusion that it could refer to the current state of things, in which I am too attached to my things, my flat, my neighborhood, which are the “nice things” in my life but, at the same time, the things that prevent myself from changing. It was just a thought, and I still don't trust my own interpretations so I always take them with a pinch of salt… I'm gonna think about your ideas about me being a bee been guided by a beautiful flower :) And I will start packing and getting rid of things as well. Will see what happens :)

Going back to your first reading 23.5 i think you might find a solution to this through existing connections. Talking to local people, friends maybe going back to the agent you got this flat from ? To receive help from a friend of a friend, receiving favours off existing connections might be the way forward, or rather often is with this line.
