Hello everyone! I have started consulting the I Ching, like many others, for sentimental situations. I haven't been using this type of divination for a long time, so I'm here hoping to get help for a clearer interpretation. My question is about an old flame, it's been two years since we broke up, and we had a short relationship of about two months. Recently, I saw her, and I immediately realized that I still have feelings for her. I'm not sure, but I heard that she has a boyfriend. So I asked the following question to the I Ching: "Will we get back together?" The response was 23, Splitting Apart, changing to 2, Receptive Power. There is a changing line in the sixth position.

I am very confused. The first hexagram doesn't seem so positive, but the changing line appears positive: "A period of disintegration is coming to an end. The negative forces have spent themselves. Evil is not destructive of good alone; it also destroys itself. And when evil decays, the leftover compost nourishes the good seeds that remain. There is a fresh, new, invigorating energy in the air. Use it!" Even the final hexagram seems positive from my point of view. So I'm asking you, did the I Ching give me a positive or negative answer to my question? In case of a positive answer, can the I Ching advise me on the best way to win her back? Thank you to everyone who will respond to this post. (I apologize if I made any mistakes; I'm doing my best to learn English.):D

H23 is about decay, collapse, letting go of control. It is called Splitting Apart.
The single yang line is at the very top and clings convulsively to this position while the yin lines try to push it out, as it were.
Could this moving 6th line perhaps refer to the fact that you are holding on to something that no longer has a chance? After all, the line causes the entire hexagram to change to H2. One of the associations with this hexagram is Earth. Splitting Apart turns into Earth. This brings to mind a house or building collapsing.
So my interpretation/answer to your question would be no. Sorry!

As always, take what resonates and leave the rest ;)

23: 6 <>2
'Stripping' through 'Yielding'

The situation around your relationship is one in which you are asked to be yielding and flexible. It calls upon you to behave in ways that improve your own standing and those around you through your how you conduct your thoughts and actions (2).

23 suggests that there is a sense of something rotten that needs to be stripped completely away and that what you have now is where you need to stay for the foreseeable future (unfavourable to have somewhere to go). Thereby using this time positively and productively to build new direction and more solid foundations for your life.

23.6 - speaks to the wisdom held within this situation. There is indeed an invigorating new energy in the air, because of the split in your relationship. How do you wisely engage with this energy? Go back or hold onto a failed relationship or strike out on an exciting new venture? Which road will you take at this important crossroads in your life?

... or there may be other interpretations that make better sense for you

Good Luck

23.6
A ripe fruit uneaten
Noble one gets a cart.
Small people strip their huts.

The potential for creating a positive relationship requires
Letting go of old ones and moving on.
If you stay stuck in the past eventually you self destruct.

2.
A noble one with generous character carries all the beings.

So anything is possible I suppose…

My experience of hexagram 2 as the relating hexagram has been that it describes a situation where nothing more should be expected - what ever was growing in that Earth has already been harvested and now it’s just an empty field. However I have seen other posters here tell about situations where there was further activity but not for a long time. The mare in hex 2 walks very slowly. So my interpretation is “Maybe - but don’t put your life on hold waiting for that to happen.”
