I asked “What if I do 100 days of changed diet and prayer?”

If relevant: the diet is the Wahls protocol and the creator suggests trying 100 days of it at 100% to see what progress you make. It’s to help with autoimmune issues. I have tons and tons of experience with eating for my health and herbs and so many different things. This is just another iteration of things I have done but it’s still “new” and a shift away from how I have been doing things recently. The prayer component would be committed practice with a few specific mantras I was given by a teacher.

I’m curious your experience with 29 UC. I’ve read a lot on this hexagram and, on one hand, I think it might just be pointing me to what I can’t avoid which is the difficulty of change and the emotional component of what comes through when certain comforts are taken away and you just have to face the feelings and the changes. On the other hand, if this is suggesting I’m making things harder for myself than it needs to be it would be good to know that.

thanks for any thoughts you have!

What if I do 100 days of changed diet and prayer? 29 uc / unchanging

The character for 29 means: pit, hole, snare, trap, crisis, abyss.
It's comprised of water below and water above, which means double peril.
Its inner hexagram is 27, 'nourishing one's body in order to withstand multiple peril'.

The Judgement mentions 'preserve/maintain the heart', so look into what effects this diet can have on the heart. It also says there is some value in this practice.

The Image advises to use 'common/ordinary morals/virtue' when practising religious matters.

In my readings, 29 unchanging plays out as a danger which I already know, a recurring danger. Being unchanging, the current situation will not change. So, what result will you get? Will it help with autoimmune issues? It looks to me like a no, or maybe a tiny bit, but the danger remains.

This is a positive response; I'd say go for it.

Hex. 29 often gets a bad wrap, sometimes named the abyss or pit .... However, it can be about going or 'travelling' deeply, about 'going with the flow' ....

29's text is: "Sacrificing captives: bind them. Offering. Travel brings rewards."

In ancient China making sacrifices - even of captives - was consider necessary and a positive thing to do. Similarly, you can think of your diet and prayer as a way you can give up - or 'offer up' what's holding you captive, and 'binding' is a commitment to use these 100 days as fully as possible - to 'bind' yourself to your endeavor, but not in a harsh, excessive, or negative way.

Sounds highly suspect in that it assumes somehow your physical problems are to do with your feelings and all that and they probably aren't. I speak generally of course. There's way too many so called self proclaimed gurus around selling this kind of stuff and 90% are just trying to get money whilst dumping all the responsibility for your illness on you like it was your fault.

You could pray about this perhaps ? Then you will get an answer from the one you plan to pray to on 100 days thing.

Does this cost a lot of money ?

The 29uc here I think shows floundering, getting sucked in and out of your depth I'm biased however. I don't think you should do it, it sounds brutal and without any real basis anyway. Beware of chucking money away for spiritual growth, it actually shouldn't cost anything. Prayer is free, goes to the heart of it minus the self appointed gurus who get rich from other people's uncertainty.

Hello;

the judgement of 29 indicates constancy in character & practicing teaching & serving; while the image wants you to be true, as holding on your heart is fulfillment by itself. The advance is encouraged.

I read it as: don't focus on a final result, the process is worth undertaking.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts! This isn’t a program that costs anything, it’s just following a book. This person is a doctor who devised this protocol for themselves and it ended up working for a lot of other people. But it’s nothing I pay for. Nor is the mantra practice; a Vedic astrology I work with ‘prescribes’ mantra for the conditions of the chart which is a normal and very ancient part of Vedic astrology, not a trend or anything.

that aside! I do know that when I have to cut out foods like sugar (even though it’s pretty well-understood that processed sugar is pretty harmful to people with chronic illness) I experience a lot of emotional and mental challenge. I debate with myself if I am someone who should do strict 100% required things or if it’s just not my nature and I need a middle path.

I definitely see the merit in the various interpretations. Like maybe it will just be too hard and putting myself through a lot of extra difficult and struggle. OR maybe those feelings are there, somewhere, regardless and it’s an opportunity to rip the bandaid off for a bit and deal with what is really there underneath the ‘easy’ things that actually do me harm.

So, what you are talking about here is trying a more restrictive diet for a while and reciting your mantras more, is that about it? These may very well end up being 'difficult', or perhaps even being of benefit (or mostly likely a mix of both), but you won't know any of that until you try, will you?

I.e. maybe you go with the flow for a while, and see where it takes you.

The Image of 29 describes a teacher who can guide one safely across the abyss. Perhaps this could be a reference to the book as the guide in which case I'm reading this response to simply mean this is one possible program and I guess it's also inferring that it is a valid program but with no change lines indicating action I wonder if the IC is implying that you wont use it? Or that it could be dangerous unless you have a human teacher to guide you along with it? Or maybe it means you'll master your issues by using the program and go on to teach the program to others!

Hm interesting! I do think I could use more support probably.. and I actually have taught some health topics before, in grad school, so it’s possible. I would love to break free again (I have been off of sugar for a long time before, in the past, and truly had so much more peace BUT it took months of being pretty miserable cutting out sooo many things to get there) but at this time I’m just not sure. It’s possible it won’t be this book. Maybe I could ask some follow up questions or compare to other options

Do you subscribe to WikiWing? It's only a dollar a month. Anyway, if you do, go to 29 and just read Hilary's explanation and comments. I hadn't realized this until I was focusing on your question but the hexagram is all about perseverance and how you have to make an absolute commitment or else don't even start, don't jump into the abyss at all. I wonder if that's the first day's lesson! Only 99 more to go... Seriously, it would be interesting if you were to observe not only the changes the diet makes for you physically but also how the challenge of sticking with the program makes you aware of how to build will power and what to avoid so's not to weaken it.

Sugar is a major disrupter of energy patterns because it raises one's spirits, gives you a high without any conscious effort, and thus trains the mind focus on the outer world and to ignore the inner feelings. I've heard it said it's worse on the body than heroin and harder to quit. I'm trying... Maybe you should start a support group over on Open Space!

I will go over and read it for sure! Thank you for the suggestion. I did feel, intuitively, that this was the nature of 29 in relation to this question, which marybluesky did really hit on, that it’s about perseverance with this. And it is what this book emphasizes, that there’s no guarantee you can bounce back from the harm of bad diet, like sometimes we lose ground and can’t actually get back where we were before if we have these types of autoimmune challenges. So it puts in perspective like wow is this worth it, the back and forth. So I could see how this makes sense! I do think sugar is a 100% thing. As soon as I started eating it again omg, SLIPPERY SLOPE

This sounds like a major undertaking for you.

With 29 being unchanging in this reading it kind of leaves a sense of having to remain with the double dose of danger it brings - inner and outer worlds. Being true to yourself and honest about all things is the best way to confront these dangers. In being true to yourself you will find the best way forward for you in your external world too. (29 image)

This doesn't mean that you should necessarily avoid the 'dangers' but work in a way that you can face them to the best of your ability. The challenge then becomes an opportunity for success in a way that you will find most suitable for you. Thereby you will be able to be gentle on yourself and that will have benefits to your system whatever the outcome turns out to be.

Auto immune issues arise for many reasons but most include an aspect of our cells beating up on other cells within us. The Wahls Protocol as I understand it is basically a higher protein content diet and munching your way through shed loads of greens each day. Carbs and sugars, which I take will be reduced in this diet (similar to keto) are addictive and at the root of many of our cravings so I don't doubt there will be an affect on emotional aspects of your world if you are cutting these out.

Is going 'cold turkey' on them really something you want to deal with? Perhaps this could be viewed as another way of just beating up on yourself. Maybe you do this plan for 120 or 140 days easing yourself into cutting out the 'naughty foods' so you manage better the emotional difficulties you envisage happening when certain of these comforts are taken away. The last 100 days you go for it fully. However you do it, it's impossible not to face the feelings when engaging fully with change.

A key part to look at in this reading is the Nuclear of 29 i.e. Hex 27 - Nourishment. This will be working away at a deep level and the challange you will be faced with as a consequence of this will be the effect of the words you think and say as well as the food you eat and drink. So the test for you could well be two-fold. Maybe your prayer element will bring the comforting words and thoughts that the feel will be missing.

...of course it may be nothing like this at all for you.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I really appreciate it. There's definitely a lot of insight here; last time I had to go cold turkey it was an actual hard "have to" because I was having actual allergic reactions and it was scary. I could only eat four foods (yes four) for many months because I knew they were "safe" and I was too scared to mess with anything else until my health was stable. I say all of that just to say, it was dark and hard in many ways. I was quite sick, homebound, and ripping away almost all food was honestly traumatic and I never recommend it to anyone who doesn't absolutely have to. So, that said, I'm doing lightyears better now, I just feel a potential slip downward and want to shift some things for the better. I'm not in an emergency situation. I have so much knowledge from many years of reading and trying every diet that exists (ha). So, I don't really have to fumble so hard in the dark. Your message must have reached me before I read it because today I thought something like "what if I commit to xyz each day" like adding things in but not focusing on the cutting out yet. See where that guides me. Presumably with increased clarity (and energy too) I'll know if I want to do more or what. I do think sometimes I choose the hardest way... it may not actually be the only way. And yes, lots of munching through massive amounts of vegetables (ha!) and high healthy fat is a big focus. The nuclear hex is so helpful to think about here! If the core is nourishing myself, there might be some gentleness that's appropriate. It's not just food. It's feeling nourished enough all around so I'm not "starving" for anything. A lot to think about there. Thank you!

I tried asking simply "How can I heal" and received 24.1.6 > 23. I feel like it's answering a much bigger question about where I am in my life right now, like coming back to myself and stripping away anything unnecessary. But maybe it's more like surrendering. Not chasing anything and whatever stays stays... whatever goes goes. I'm not sure. I'm not sure how to get specific with the answer but I also asked a massive question so I guess that makes sense :ROFLMAO:

Hmm..just fooling around here.. 24.1 suggests things haven't gone too far and you can Return to health and maybe since the harsh 24.6 as a stand alone line leads to 27. Nourishment, it's saying you're better nourished if you don't do something. So maybe advice to NOT do the strict diet you have been considering? Then as far as what you should do I see 23 as saying there seems to be a need to eliminate certain things that are no longer serving you. Maybe ask what you need to eliminate? Certain foods but also maybe there are stresses, relationships, clutter in your life and they too need the old heave-ho?

24 meaning 'the way is reversing'
23 meaning 'something is rotten'

Nuclear of 24 - Hex 2

In simple terms there is something amiss in your world right now (23), and probably has been for a while as this has been the context of your life. Now is the time to recognise that you are already healing and all you have to do deep down is to be open to the benefits the Universe is presenting to you (2). There is no where to go and nothing to do (image 24) - just trust and allow things to unfold for you.

24.1 - Deep down you know the way. When the time is right, the right way or the best direction to take will become effortlessly obvious to you. Be open to this.
24.6 - The more you try to control or set the direction of your healing the more likely you are to throw it of track.

Maybe right now you don't need to get specific with the answer.

...or it may be nothing like this at all.

Good Luck

thank you rosada and my_key!

These both make sense. it's amazing how the same message can come through different channels. it's been such a persistent message in recent months to *not* do, to be simple, to be easy, and to be open to basic truths even if they're challenging. I keep resisting the message because I'm afraid that it could be pointing to relationships that I'm not ready to fully accept can't work, that I will have to make a really big change if I start to fully listen, but I think there's something here that isn't about making a drastic decision anyway but just doing what is actually right for me on a very personal, preservational level and the rest of the things will either still fit in my life or they won't. Perhaps that's something of the 'stripping' and 'returning'.

This is not easy advice! :ROFLMAO: It's a lot of relinquishing of control rather than deciding X is my big plan to "fix" things. I'm sure that's part of it. Healing in a new way is also important. New process/approach. It's possible to do "new" things in an old way and end up with just as much stress. I think you both hit on very important parts of this. Thank you <3

I agree that this casting communicates that, deep down, it's all there. And that maybe I'm not as far off center as I think... but I'm also not totally in alignment either, hence the need to get to the heart of it all.
