31 changing to 62?? Now what does that mean?

Hi everybody,
Oops, I have an issue here. Late October, I may be called to work as an interpreter in a 4-day workshop. I felt this could be a burden, as I am in need of a bit personal time. On the other hand, this could be a good professional opportunity for me. So I was in a dilemma on what to do. Should I take the job or spend time with my partner? I got hexagram 31 changing to 62 (9 in the 5th line). Somebody understands what it may mean? Thanks! :bows:

Well, I think these hexagrams are eerily on point! In this case, I think hexagram 31 highlights the conflict in the situation: the workshop is potentially a good professional opportunity and, at the same time, you want to spend some time with your partner (whom you love and/or are attracted to).

Line 5 says that you need to go with your gut on this one. Is the job worth it or is your partner more important? You need to decide, but don't allow yourself to be inflexible as to the ultimate decision.

Hexagram 62 is all about being realistic about your options. Do you need this gig for financial reasons? If so, take it, be practical. If not, have you been neglecting your relationship with your partner? Can hanging out together wait? If you have been, then hang out with your partner. Hexagram 62 is all about taking the middle ground: don't fly too high. Figure out what the best, least extreme course is to take in your circumstance.

Well, line 31.5 is super confusing, because even I Ching philosophers have varying opinions about what it actually means. In my experience, this line is all about commitment: usually a lack of commitment. It instructs you to commit, one way or the other and not to be too stiff and rigid. Allow the passion to consume you, whether it is for this 4-day gig or for your partner. Hope you can apply that to your circumstance somehow, and that it helps.

35.5 sounds like once you make the commitment you mustn't change it, but the 62. Small Detail is you haven't even been offered the job yet. So maybe the I Ching is saying don't put your life on hold for it, wait and see if you're asked and then decide how you feel

Once you are definitely offered the work then you can consider if it suits your schedule.
Meanwhile 62. could be read as encouraging you to honor the moments you and your partner have together between now and the end of October. If you make the time special now you may feel more comfortable focusing on work then.

Basically this is in fact telling you to do the four day thing, as its sort of like your duty to do these people a favour and oneday the favour will be returned.

I continue to think about this question...

I see 31.5 - 62 as describing the translator's job:
31.5 A translator must not be Influenced, swayed, but must pay strict
62. Attention to Detail, and simply translate the words whether they agree with the ideas or not.

Perhaps receiving hexagrams that seem to describe the job is an indication that the translating assignment would be a good fit for the energies that week, in which case it would most likely not be a particularly arduous assignment.

I still think however, that Attention to Detail can mean don't make any plans or changes till they actually offer you the contract.

Does 32.5 - 62 describe your something about your relationship? Perhaps 62. also means checking with your partner to see if they will be available that week anyway. Details, details...

People, thanks for your replies. I have not figured it out yet. What actually confused me, was that 31 is about relationships... But then the changing line ... Oh, anyway - come what may! When things get clear, I will let you guys know.
