33.6>31 question?

Hi,

I'm new and always find a way to confuse myself with my readings. I thought I'd ask for some help. I have a very cyclical relationship with a friend. I believe my friend gets scared and runs away. I asked -Is X going to return to my life? I received 33.6->31.

At first I took that as a yes the obstacles have been removed and 31 seems to be positive. Now, I'm wondering if it means my friend is happy with the retreat. What influence does 31 have on this situation? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Saucysiren, without calling myself an expert with the oracle, it seems to me that this reading goes along your second interpretation. But as per the line says, his retreat leads to good fortune. So happens is a good thing.

For me, in many cases, when 31 comes as relating hexagram means that if we follow the I Ching's advice then we start resonating, opening ourselves to be influenced with what comes naturally.

This question is about whether X will come back one day, and the answer is yes he will (Hex31).

This answer is typical of push-pull relationships. The more you retreat, the more
he will want you. Then, once you're there, he will retreat, and so on and so forth.
Some people are like that and prefer to live an eternal chase. So, if you retreat
in a 'cheerful manner', he'll come after you. Or, if he has retreated in a 'cheerful
manner', then you'll be the one who wants him all the more. Of course there's
always the option to really retreat in a cheerful manner, concentrate on that
only, and leave him behind you, but of course that's a personal choice of what
style of relationships you like.

Trojan-I have a question for you and anyone else who feels that way. If the relating hexagram does not have much significance to the question wouldn't you just get one hexagram as a result? What is the purpose of the second hexagram?

Fair point, hmm well I'm just speaking from a sort of immediate practical divination POV (if divination can be said to be practical) so all I'm saying is I find the more moving lines the more part the second hexagram plays because the primary hex is far more on the brink of change, less 'itself' if you like, so with say 4 moving lines I'd give the second or relating hexagram way more importance. With one line moving i just find the answer tends to be pretty much in that line. You're right there must be a relation between 33.6 and 31.. as thats what it changes to, but for the purposes of your answer i just don't think it that relevant. Some would look at it like 33.6 is the 'attraction' ( the 31)element in 33 and I'd see that as in 33.6 one is leaving, retreating but one does not experience it as a negative 'running away' type of thing for one is actually going towards something else so it feels like being drawn. Like withdrawing from the outer world might also be turning towards ones inner self so it is not a sad retreat but a happy one. Ones withdrawal in 33.6 is felt like an attraction, a pull, something you want to do.

Anyhow people treat how they see lines and relating hexagrams very differently. That is just one way...I just wouldn't agonise too much over the relating hex with one line moving, but some people would. If you feel it important in this question then follow your inclination

With regard to your question it seems the situation of withdrawal between you is nothing to regret at this time, as if its something you come to be at peace with, its okay it not a negative development so to speak. But I don't see more than that. I don't see it saying if the person will return or not

I see 33.6 as meaning you are so over him there is no longer a question of him coming back. IT IS OVER. When you get that then you are ready to be 31. Open to new attractions.

However, I am just telling you my reading of the line but i don't have a Real Life Example, so my interpretation may not be accurate. I hope you'll check back in with us in a month or so and report how things actually worked out.
