Is it worth giving my children the benefit of doubt

Things haven't gotten any better with my children despite my attempts to find some sort of reconciliation and I think it's time for me to totally move on from them as heartbreaking as that is for me.

Haha I prefer to call it pretend retreating but it's all the same thing and yes that's what I'm doing.
Since doing this hiding/retreating thing I've had time to see the truth a whole lot more.
I don't miss my children as the adults they are now, but I do miss our loving family that once was and sadly for the last 14 years I've been hoping somehow we'd come back together after the brokeness of our small family.
The last few weeks have made me realise that's never going to happen, with the mindset the children have now, and instead of perpetually breaking my heart with hope I need to let go.
This is not really about them, this is about how I move forward from here.
I had considered writing an email from my pov but my intuition tells me it will fall on deaf ears, hence the question.
