Q: Is consulting the Yi a positive thing for developing my gifts?
A: 36, unchanging

What do you guys make of this? I like to think I consult the Yi to strengthen my intuitive muscle. The imagery makes me think the knowledge of th Yi is hidden away, like a fire, burning on the inside and is reflected through query and dialogue with our true or higher self.

Thats a hard question with a difficult answer, i see a reserved but hidden strength, the Yi is almost maybe saying what it is to you.

Yes consulting I Ching is like a dialogue with your inner/true self.
36 fixed means that IChing language is mystical, symbolical, not in plain view for everyone, like a hidden light, and you have to open the 3rd eye to see....
If you want help from IChing you should commit and persevere in practice for a long time...like an archaeologist struggling to decode an ancient, lost language....

I think neither positive nor negative. 36 doesn't really have any progress in it, just biding the time.

The light/knowledge is already inside, there is just some dirt covering it.
Yeah yeah, as the story of 36 unfolds we see a man who deals with some darkness/evil, so maybe Yi just helps by pointing out the dark things. Blockages/mistrust/traumas/outdated mindset ?

I think this answer challenges your idea of 'positive' and your idea of 'gifts'. Yes very contrary of Yi to give you 36 NOT 35. Now 35 is all about developing gifts that will be seen and rewarded but here 36 says this is a far quieter thing and also ...well it reminds me of the inverse of a 'positive gift'....which would be er....'a negative cost' ? I don't think this can be taken as a negative cost of course but it is exactly what 35 is not and makes me think of the indent a mould makes if that makes sense.

I don't think we can predict what Yi will do for us, it's a process of discovery. If you have the idea it will strengthen your 'intuitive muscle' then I think Yi is saying here it might do something entirely different. I also agree with your take on it yet can't help but see it that Yi is being somewhat impish and contradicting you here since you ask of gifts and get 36. Perhaps it can take you to deep dark places too or be a companion as you travel in there. One thing Yi is invaluable for is accompanying one in those times where one has no external validation of any kind. Then it certainly does help to keep your inner fire bright.

But bear in mind we just don't always get what we expect with Yi so if you have an agenda of what using Yi will help you to gain it might just up end that. I don't think that contradicts your interpretation it's just an additional thought.

I'm sorry to get back to y'all so late. Work. But I'm off the next two weeks. And for some reason, I can't log in at home, only on my cell. Which takes a long time to respond.

Thank you all for responding. But I must say, Trojina, you called out what was behind the thoughts I wrote. Or the adverse. Here's what I really thought: I'm gifted intuitively, but consulting the Yi often makes me too intellectual. I have guts and gut feelings. My light is hidden. But I get a lot of pleasure out of consulting the Yi. Like a stroking, or imbibing. The fire is there, but it's darkened by my relentless hold on words. All my intellectualizing serves me on a platter. I need to stick with the smolder, the glow of inner knowing. What do shamans say? Truth is so sharp that we can only dance around it. 36 is dancing around a fire.

Am I making sense.
