Hi,

I'm new to this and would like to ask for your interpretation of a reading I got about a potential love story with a much younger man: The first I Ching was #4, the second #38.
My interpretation would be that it's got the potential of being a nice refreshing fling but I should not count on a long term relationship. What do you think?

Many thanks in advance!

This potential relationship isn't going to fly as you will no doubt find out.

Thanks Willowfox,

I thought it may be go that way, but it helps 'hearing' it from someone else, to stop illusions from invading my mind!

From what I understand, this meeting was meant to teach me to appreciate the feeling of being still attractive enough to interest a young man, and this was good considering that I spent most of the last year licking my wounds, after a separation from the man I had spent the last 10 years of my life with. I guess what I have to learn is to cherish the good things that come into my life, without letting my imagination nurture god knows what expectations.

It felt good, though, feeling a deep connection with someone...

Thanks for you feedback,

Dear Lady Rainbow,

The story is Youthful Folly followed by Opposition - hardly something you'd like to get yourself into...
A short fling that will not grow into anything more substantial due to huge personality differences.

Warmest wishes on your quest to find somebody more compatible!

Thank you hooliganetta for your interpretation and for your good wishes!

Actually I asked the I-Ching on my quest to find someone compatible and I got #63 as an answer. I thought that was a positive omen, but after reading some of the posts on the forum I wonder...

Best regards

I don't know if you meant you got two seperate answers hex 4 and then hex 38 both unchanging, or you got hex 4 with lines 1, 4 and 5 moving ? Wasn't clear what you meant by 'the first I Ching'. If you got hex 4 with changing lines to 38 then it would be 4.1.4.5>38

63 can indicate you already have what you want...or at least for now its as good as it gets. In terms of quest in your current cycle I'd take 63 as very much a plateau. In this cycle of relationships/ways of thinking about realtionships, you've completed a cycle and things appear to be pretty much settled in place for a while.

However there are no fixed meaning for hexagrams, its very much about context so what I've just said applies sometimes. I've found if I'm asking about something on a fairly large scale ...then 63 unchanging has indicated something being pretty much 'in place' for the duration of that particular area (ie work, relationships, housing etc) of your life cycle. Bearing in mind eventually the cycle ends and one moves on to the next and the next. Looking at ones life from a distance one can often see how a certain chapter/episode/cycle remained settled and in place for a period. 63 unchanging to me often indicates I am in the midst of such a period. In terms of 'quest' then I'd see it not really a period of questing but of completing a cycle, continuing to process recent events, living/being in 'how it is' rather than immediately looking to something new. The processes of 63 and 64 and pretty organic IMO, you can't rush them. To get another angle on where you are in cylces in your life astrology may also help

BTW also 63 unchanging, particularly in smaller mundane matters has turned out for me as 'this is fine, this is just okay just as it is'...can signify a correct choice for example re purchases of objects..then 63 can indicate 'this is the one to settle for' . But as there is no real fixed meaning for hexagrams, as you will see if you read the forums, it is better if you think about the imagery in 63 and just feel how that might apply to you and relationships right now

BTW theres no such thing as positive and negative hexagrams ...or at least its pointless to see them that way. Have a look at this http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=8682

Dear Lady,

Welcome to onlineclarity!

What exactly was the question you asked the I Ching? "What can you tell me about the potential of this relationship?" If that was indeed your question I see 4.1.4.5-38 as saying you are looking at something that has very limited potential, but that doesn't necessarily mean it shouldn't be enjoyed for what it is.
4.1 suggests to me the idea of the angels setting up a play pen and saying, you're not capable of surviving out in the wild yet, so here's a safe protected area where you can run free for a bit and not get into too much trouble. Thus, you're not ready for a heavy duty bare your soul heart to heart forever commitment partnership, but you two could play together and have fun.
4.4 Is a sense of being totally lost and unsure of what is required. Sounds like you don't know this person or are unsure what you want from a relationship. Perhaps that is the attitude you should have about it at this time - that you don't know where it's headed or what you want so you're not going to impose heavy requirements or make big promises.
4.5 A wonderful omen for just being yourselves together.

38. Opposition is about two sisters who grow up together but eventually marry different men and have separate lives. Thus they can't make far reaching plans together because they know eventually they must go in separate directions. Still, while they are together they can help each other in small ways.

How this all applies to your own situation only you can know but relating it to what you have told us here - that this is a younger man and that you are recently out of a long term relationship - it reads to me as if the I Ching is saying that if you are looking for a friendship that isn't too taxing, something safe where you wont get hurt, maybe someone who can bring out your spontaneous happy side - your inner fool! - and aren't hung up on evaluating the relationship in terms of long term commitments - well then, this friend could be just what you need.

"He may not be my Mister Right, but he's my Mister Right Now."

The fact that you also received 63 in a reading about love relationships in general also says to me the I Ching is encouraging you to enjoy where you are today.

Dear Rosada and Trojan,

WOW! Thanks so much for taking time and energy to give me such exhaustive interpretations. I feel very warmly welcomed: thanks!!!

Trojan, you said "Wasn't clear what you meant by 'the first I Ching'." To tell you the truth, I'm very much a newby in all this. I had had the two readings on another website, where there was no mention of what lines were changing. It just said something like this: 'because you drew a moving line, there is a second hexagram...'. So, the first one was, as I said 4, and the second one 38. While I was looking for more info about these two hexagrams I bumped into 'onlineclarity' and... now a new science opens up its doors for me :)

Out of curiosity, but I don't know whether you're allowed to to this - it sounds a bit like cheating, asking similar questions about the same matter, even if formulated differently - I drew a new reading today on this site, asking "Is there a future for XYZ (the young man) and me?". The answer was one hexagram and to be precise #22.
Then, because I'm a curious monkey, I drew a new reading, even more impudent (don't laugh ;-)): "Will XYZ become my husband?", and I got two hexagrams: the primary being #46 (3rd line red= pushing upward into empty space - which basically confirms the idea of no long-term relationship), and the relating hexagram was #7.

To conclude, Rosada I really liked your closing line "He may not be my Mister Right, but he's my Mister Right Now." :-DDD Maybe it'll go that way, maybe not... I'll be open for nice surprises!

Thanks again for all your support and kind words.

Continue the process

I asked the I-Ching on my quest to find someone compatible and I got #63 as an answer. I thought that was a positive omen, but after reading some of the posts on the forum I wonder...

Hexagram 63, water above, and fire below. I think of it as being a pot on a fire. The idea is to keep the pot on the boil. Keep adding water above so that it does not burn dry. Keep adding fuel below so that the process continues.

That's it in a phrase: Continue the process ...

If it was not worth pursuing, the I Ching would have told you that. When you get 63 unchanging, you can assume you're on the right track ...

Thanks ginnie for your encouraging words. I'll keep the full pot on the boil and the good energy flowing, sooner or later someone compatible (known or unknown) will join in for a good cup of tea! :)

Best wishes!
