40.1 > 54 advise on finishing book

MerryXmas everyone!

My emotional challenges are bringing me down again and Im all alone in the city as everyone went to their families for the Festivities. I was watching myself getting ready for another two weeks of depression in bed, as I grabbed the book and started looking for ways out.

It turns out it would be a perfect time to finally finish the draft of a book which has been waiting far too long in the drawer. I even already have a publisher and all...!

Im a bit all-or-nothing person, so the way i see this being done is actually dying to the outside world and staying inside doing nothing except writing and sleeping and occasionally eating. Literary decadence, my favorite...

For me the 40.1 was a clear JUST DO IT.
sit write sit write sleep sit write - until its done.

But I dont see this sort of deliverance in the context of 54, where nothing should be undertaken.
Could it be that 54 is referring to my overall context of frustration beyond the book, how powerless I feel in all other realms?
Could it be No problem delivering this, releasing yourself from the tension of having this manuscript laying there for ages, in the bigger picture of tension? Or could it be a sign to halt and just stay in bed feeling sorry for myself...? (no, sorry, kidding, im a bit bitter lately) Could it be a sign to halt, dont attempt to finish the book in the conditions im at at the moment...?

40.1 to 54 . . Release the draft (54) that's waiting for you in that drawer . . .
or, in order to release this you'll have to 54 yourself to it ('sit write sit write sleep sit write')

all in all I don't see anything saying you must stay in and sulk . .

Line one controls here in terms of your question. Hexagram 54 is just a backdrop to the situation, and speaks of a marriage. In other words, a possible marriage of sorts between you and the publisher. All systems go, good luck with your book.

This could be saying just to do what pleases you in this situation. Forget the past and forget the future - Do what you need to do now. If it's nothing then do nothing -if it's finish the book then finish the book.

Your specific question was to how to go about finishing the book before 2011. And the Yi was telling you how to finish it. Whether it's right to finish it is another question.

OUTCOME (one week later)

I sat and wrote and wrote and wrote, and then I wrote some more... and had barely no sleep and never left the house and it wasn't humanly possible to have done more.
I completely 54rd myself to it all through the week, doing nothing else, like rodaki pointed to, and - despite taking it to a great length, it is very close to completion ... but it is not finished... it needs more work....

Im gonna let it rest for a week or two and then give it another week, and that will be a wrap.

Im happy about the whole thing and there is no problem its not finished. It was a self-proposed deadline.

so, have to give it to gato :

But all contributions were very valid, complementing each other, imo...


... so now that I know a bit more about the nature of 40.1 I will go out and find myself a dance floor ))))
