I have been thinking of an old fling lately. I always liked him, but I am quite sure it was more me than him. He came across my facebook account as a friend suggestion, but I didn't act on it. It has had me thinking of him again. Lately, I see our names together on advertisements, wedding announcements...I've blown it off as common names. I've seen his favorite team on different things. It's a fairly small college two states away. Part of me says, I am noticing these things because he has been on my mind.

My questions to I Ching:

What's the likelihood that x will contact me?

What's the likely outcome if I contact x?

What's the likelihood of having a relationship with x?

They seem promising, but I don't want to delude myself.

By my reading, questions 1 and 3 aren't phrased in a manner that IC can respond to, or respond to well... of "likelihood that x will contact me" : The good news is that this is probably the most hopeful of the three. The bad news is that IC isn't really a fortune-telling tool (though it may, with unnerving accuracy, tell you what others with whom you have a relationship are doing now or in the very near term.)

Of "the likelihood of having a relationship..." You already have a relationship, just not the relationship you want to have...

Of your second question -- you've put into better terms for an IC question. 12-Stagnation does not generally bring a smile to my face when I see it in a reading. Lines 4 & 5 are hopeful insofar as IF you achieve and maintain some balance and relate to yourself and the object of inquiry correctly, you may see some slow progress. Those are some big "ifs." Not a hopeless situation, but not cause for ecstatic celebration either. This is confirmed by 27-Nourishing: The quality of the energy you put into this affects the outcome. As Wing notes: "Pay special attention to what you allow to enter your sphere of awareness, and, at the same time, avoid excessive indulgences.

FWIW -- when you find your thoughts drawn to someone with whom you have inner connections, it's quite possible that their thoughts are drawn to you also.

Thank you, I finally get the "importance" of the question you ask. I hadn't thought of us having a relationship, I guess in some degree we did/do.

I asked the IC, What is the likely outcome if I let x contact me?

39.4 seems consistent with the prior (2nd) reading -- hold to your own principles, let the energy build, have great faith ;->

Hex 45, line 5 is the most auspicious. In my experience 39.4 indicates stagnation.

Hex 13.5 is also favourable. There's a good chance he may contact you. Be patient.
