Hello Fellow Seekers,

I had an interview today - (a friend's recommendation) for a new fashion magazine. I'm to be editor - soemthing I always wanted to do. But the magazine is yet to be 'registered' - which means I can only expect to begin in 20 days or so. When I asked what I could expect from this job, I drew hexagram 46 line 6 moving to 18. I find line 6 really difficult to grasp. Does it mean I must do it even though I have no guidance? It seems I don't. I must relly on my own experience - but then I do have a lot of experience in journalism. Please help me decipher this. It's apart time job and somehow I've managed to land part time jobs for many years now. I'd hate to work full time!

Thanks and best for your Quest
Anita

If you already have the job, you could expect it to be a lot more challenging than you first supposed, and not an easy ride.
When I was 17 I got a job as a "draftsman" for a big hospital near L.A.. Where needed, my drawings would be certified by my boss, who was a boiler engineer. First day on the job he showed me a couple of vacant lots next to the hospital and told me he wanted me to "draft up some plans" for a new medical center. That was a 46.6 > 18 sort of a job. I got in way over my head, but I did it, by myself, and it laid the foundation for a good career. I just didn't get much of a chance to bullshit my way through it.

Hex 46.6 says don't get carried away by this new job, be realistic and only do what you are capable of doing, don't try to do the impossible. If you can't do something, then delegate someone else to do it.

Hex 18 is about fixing what has been spoilt in the past or by the passing of time. Your journalistic skills may have decayed through lack of proper use, so this magazine project will require that you rebuild those skills, a case of relearning while you are working, so that you can fill your full potential as an editor/writer.

Thanks so much Willow and Brad! Maybe I'll be biting off more than I can chew - but maybe not, since I'm constantly writing - whether it's fiction, non fiction, or copy. Hard work I expect, but can be done. And a good change from advertising. Besides, considering I've been a model for many years and adore clothes, this should be interesting. Especially since it's part time.

Your answer definitely says to persevere and go with it, line 46.6 is only suggesting that you know your limitations and don't push into unknown territory with a guiding light. And hex 18 furthers the idea of persevering, keep at it and success is sure to follow, so make your preparations and try.

I'm really wondering though whether 18.6 is referring to my spiritual path, and whether I should give up this worldly stuff and join the temple instead! Definitely this seems like an option. I am truly world weary at times when I must hop from job to job. What is the purpose of life, after all? Enlightenment I believe. So why not dedicate myself to it completely? Tough decision since I have so many worldly things to do! My fiction, my art! Keeping in touch with my son, and my doggies.

Hi Anita
18.6. the Fan Yao, isn't part of your reading. It only explains what isn't lost when you get to the top, which is a higher and nobler purpose.
Since these two interpretations are so far apart, I hope you'll come back in two months with some kind of report. Willowfox seems to be seeing a rationally ordered world for you, with delegates and all, and I'm seeing something more like X Games or other extreme sports, and much challenge and education.

Anita,
My feeling was that perhaps there will be unforeseen problems with the magazine getting registered or getting started.
But that's a shot in the dark. rather like 46.6 itself. something is unperceived at this point.
I am thinking that your life and passions are quite enLIGHTening all to themselves. When a person has so much to offer and enJOY, it IS a spiritual path. the temple would seem so 52.3 for one as seemingly vibrant as you. Keep rising up

Thank you Bradford and Listener. I will of course keep you posted - that's part of our learning here, isn't it? I wish people would let us know as time goes on how things turn out. Listener - yes I have much to offer, much to enjoy, but I am so convinced that the ultimate offering is spiritual dedication, which will bring light to my ancestors and my 14 year old son. However, it may not be my destiny to become a temple girl, although I am almost one, actually!

A quick update here - Listener was right - registering problems causing delay but the ball is still up in the air, it ought to happen this month. And Bradford - the nobler purpose - well, I'm back to priestessing the most important Ceremony in the Temple! After a break of 4-5 years! And Guruji says the divine has arranged it all for me - for I have no job right now, and my sanyasin friend had to suddenly leave for a couple of months, and since there is only one another sanyasin here and ceremonies require two, I'm in! I feel wonderful. I know also that jobs will come in. I've done a bit of freelance in the ad agency where I was working part time recently, and my art is opening up too. I really believe that as long as we nurture our spirit, the body finds its nurture.

Mighty fine shooting for what you termed a "shot in the dark", Listener!

Now I wonder if we're still waiting for the Yi's response. The Question was:

"When I asked what I could expect from this job, I drew hexagram 46 line 6 moving to 18."
