49.4 and flu shot

Hi everyone
I have been stressing over whether or not to get the flu shot this year, and thought to try the i ching..
I asked "What is best for me to do regarding getting the flu shot for me and my daughter?"
and got 49.4

Nine in the fourth place means:
Remorse disappears. Men believe him.
Changing the form of government brings good fortune.

Radical changes require adequate authority. A man must have inner strength as well as influential position. What he does must correspond with a higher truth and must not spring from arbitrary or petty motives; then it brings great good fortune. If a revolution is not founded on such inner truth, the results are bad, and it has no success. For in the end men will support only those undertakings which they feel instinctively to be just.

This line changes the hexagram to 63, Aftermath

do you guys think this means i should do it?
Ive been REALLY not ok with the current formulations they use for these, even though I agree in principle that a properly made vaccine for the population is needed in some way..

It seems to be indicating that getting the flu shot will not harm you and your daughter in any way. Like you, I have my doubts about the way these vaccines are formulated. What seems to be involved is a change of mind on your part about how much to trust the vaccine. I have found Yi to be hard to interpret when it comes to medical questions and questions about medications. I think the main question is whether or not there could be something harmful about getting the flu shot, according to the dictum: First, do no harm.

At first I hesitated to respond to this at all because I have a built in bias and I despise drugs, or most anything a medical doctor could come up with. People are supposed to get sick when their body is too full of toxins. That helps release the toxins. To use drugs is to stop that process, and though it may help initially, in the long run it is disastrous.

I do see something though that I think is meaningful in the commentary. The commentary says, "If ... not founded on such inner truth, the results are bad, and it has no success." So you will have to decide if there is any truth to what I have spoken above, or if it is nonsense.

You might try asking for a bit more information from the I Ching, which you can then use to either interpret and illuminate your original answer or to make a decision on your own. How about: What effect would getting a flu shot this year have on my health? What effect would getting a flu shot this year have on my daughter's health? (The outcome may be different for you and your daughter).

49.4 "changing the form of government" may refer to changing your immune system to be more effective by taking the flu shot."

Meanwhile, whenever I have a reading where the second hexagram is 63 I read it as "its already done". In my life, it usually is saying "you've already decided this" even if I don't consciously realize that I am decided already.

I'm concerned that because your question was open ended, Sayler's interpretation that you and your daughter should have flu shots this year is not the only one that is valid. It's likely that 'changing the form of government' could be referring to going against the pressure to conform to getting the flu shots. And it's also possible that asking the I Ching to state "what is best" could have prompted the response of 49.4 -- encouraging a change in the form of government from the I Ching to yourself (to not ask it to judge for you but to use it as a resource to inform your own decisions).

just wanted to let you guys know that I decided against the shot. There are too many reasons NOT to so Im listening to my gut on this one..

Sounds to me that you made an excellent decision to "change the form of government" from a decision based on outside authority and advertising to a decision based on your own inner truth. Bravo!
