Hi all,
I asked what are the effects on my career of continuing to volunteer with X (an organization/agency)? and it provided me with 5.4.6 > 1.

These lines of 5 seem interesting, but I'm not 100% sure I understand what it's saying... is it saying I'll fall into misfortune if I continue on the path?

For line four on James DeKorne's site, this is included under notes and paraphrases heading:

Editor: Psychologically interpreted, this line sometimes implies that during a transitional phase in the dialectical process of individuation one must avoid any influence that might interfere with that process. Each translator uses a different word for what may be interpreted as an image of the unconscious psyche: "cavern," "pit," "abyss," "cave" and "cavity" all describe a hidden, dark, dangerous influence in the situation at hand.

For the ordinary esoteric aspirant the best approach to the evil within us is, after having recognized and faced it, to starve it, working only upon the development of the good and spiritual qualities. By developing the contact of the Spirit the psyche will eventually be so transformed that there is no room for evil within it. Direct work upon evil forces will tend to set up a polarity and occult link with these forces and this is one thing which must be sedulously avoided.
Gareth Knight --Qabalistic Symbolism
I'm intrigued by this mention of the unconscious part of the mind... not sure what exactly it means for this situation though.

And as for line 6, this mention of 3 uninvited guests intrigues me. Would an uninvited guest be someone I'd reach out to? I would call that invited, but maybe not. I know one person I reached out to that I hadn't talked to in awhile.. not sure if I reached out or just said I wasn't feeling a certain path but they told me not to give up on it and offered different possibilities. In my thread about option a or option b where I was pondering which thing to attend that was scheduled at the same time on the same day, I ultimately attended neither, so hopefully i did not unintentionally avoid an uninvited guest by not attending either of these situations...:brickwall:

Often visitors to one's cave means people who send emails to your inbox, which is a sort of cave, I guess.

Also, line four moving tends to mean you get detained in an unpleasant way but that eventually you will come out of that cave. In the cave, you listen obediently (Cleary). I think it usually refers to an actual situation, not the unconscious portion of the mind. The reading seems to be saying that eventually you will get free of this organization or agency. :)

Hello hex 1 advises that you are the master of your fate and everything depends on correct actions and correct timing. As long as you are positive and deal fairly with people and in good faith the effects will be positive for your career and there will be no regrets.

Sounds really positive, so I wonder why I feel inclined not to do said volunteering...

I'm volunteering at another place as well and asked "What are the effects on my career if I continue to volunteer with Y?" 59.5 > 4.

Hex 4 sounds to me kind of negative but I could be wrong with that.

It could be that the hex 4 means that you already know the answer to your question. It is generally thought that volunteering has a good effect on our career prospects. You give of yourself generously, and this is reflected in the 59.5.

Interesting take on hexagram 4, ginnie.

Since this has been a main concern of mine on some level, I decided to ask What is my path to greater income for upcoming expenses I may have? I received hex 4.1.2 > 27. Volunteering doesn't provide income, so in the back of my mind valuing things financially it seems less than worth it... though I do understand there are definite benefits to it.

In relation to the above, I got an email today indicating a need to renew membership by July 1st for another association. I had thought I probably should, but after considering the fact that fees go up, I started to think, why am I spending this money when it's not really benefiting me?

I asked "What action should I take with regard to a renewal notice for PA?" hex 32.3.5 > 47. I'm reading that this hexagram might have something to do with looking beyond emotions into the inner self. I find it difficult to know what's emotion and what is the inner knowing though. If there are any thoughts or experiences with this or related readings of hex 32, that would be excellent to hear!

I think that the two lines are giving your two alternatives, to either renew or don't renew. You are thinking of the expense of the membership and don't want to spend that much (47). Perhaps you might think if there is any benefit you are receiving from membership that would make the fee worth spending. If not, then you might drop the membership. You could always join again at a later date if you find you've made a mistake.
