I've been thinking a lot about this line lately. It came to my attention when someone made the comment, "Death comes in threes." I wonder if the uninvited guests in this line could refer to death inevitably coming for us all - but perhaps by treating Death as a welcomed stranger we can at least delay his taking us away too abruptly?

No, it doesn't.
It means exactly what it says,
And shows the path to good fortune.

Like the time you cast it, and set out the extra dinner plates for the uninvited guests that arrived to your dinner party.
They didn't come 1 on one day, 1 on another, then one on another day.
Remember?

The origin of the expression ' death coms in threes' seems to be from Catholocism-culture. and is a superstition.

More than one culture has a story where poor people are exceptionally generous to uninvited guests, and are rewarded when the guest turns out to be divine or holy. I imagine someone in China might have told the same kind of story.

(And, yes, I'm also all in favour of taking it literally.)

Yes, as in the three wise men who came to visit the new born baby Jesus - a story teaching the value of honoring strangers, rather than fearing them or taking up arms against them. In 5. Waiting we have the same message but from an alternate approach. With the Christmas story we're encouraged to honor the stranger for they might be good guys. I think with 5. we're being told to honor the stranger for it may turn out they're not bad guys.

If 5.6 means ”Honor the strangers for they may turn out to not be bad guys”, then I see this line as advising Hypnotist Collector to go to the reunion.

And who knows what the resulting good fortune will be? I went to my 25th and discovered all the people who had snubbed me in high school had grown up to be the sort of total jerks I would never want to spend time with anyway. It was a very healing insight..

Looking at Waiting I thought of the phrase, “Time and tide wait for no man” and it occurred to me the lines of hex 5 describe the tide coming in -
5.1 Setting up camp far enough away from the water so the incoming tide is not a threat.
5.2 Waiting in the sand. Like sunbathing on a sandy beach. The tide only just barely lapping at your toes.
5.3 Waiting in the mud. Now the tide is splashing over your towels and turning sand to mud.
5.4 Better move or the tide gonna be crashing over your picnic.

I found the girl who'd bullied me for years had morphed into this sort of giant friendly teddy-bear of a woman. You never know! About the only thing you can be sure of in 5.6 is that while you were expecting and waiting for one thing, something completely different shows up. Honour the unexpected and unpredictable, and it might turn out to bring blessings.
