Hi there,

I asked Yi: "What is the best approach to the job search?". I think I have passed through many different stages in this very long job search process. I have redone my CV at least 10 times, I have paid people to review it, I have gone to events to network, I have messaged recruiters directly, and I have applied for jobs I'm underqualified and overqualified for. I’ve tried everything I could think of.

In March I asked the same question and I got 41.1 to 4. Since then, I've been working with my therapist to address any internal blockages I may have around work. Now, I feel ready to revisit this question.

50.2 and 50.6 make me think there are good opportunities within my reach ("there is food in the cauldron" and "the cauldron has jade handles"). Furthermore, "nothing that would not act to further" (Wilhem) suggests that there is not a particular effort I have to do, and that success will be easily achieved.

However, 50.4 is a more negative line that suggests personal inadequacy. Since it changes to 18, I feel there may be some internal mess that I need to clean up before I can fully connect with the abundance suggested in the other lines. I'm not sure what this mess or incompetence may be, so if anyone has experience with this line, I would greatly appreciate their insights.

However, 50.4 is a more negative line that suggests personal inadequacy. Since it changes to 18, I feel there may be some internal mess that I need to clean up before I can fully connect with the abundance suggested in the other lines. I definitely relate to the subject matter of your question, and based upon my experience, this is how I'd interpret it:

With hexagram 15 as the context, I'd say a balanced, consistent effort is important.

With 50.2, maybe start to consider possibilities for work that you haven't yet considered.

With 50.4 there could be some anxieties and dissatisfaction involved which is obvious in the context you provided. This anxiety/dissatisfaction usually involves sustenance in my experience.

But 50.6 to me means a paradigm shift. So, if you haven't already had that about your job search, I'd say plan on it.

Basically, put in consistent effort, expand your search field, and plan on having some changed ideas about the search.

I hope that helps.

Hi thehaajk,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your insights, I hadn't considered a paradigm shift but will keep my eye open to opportunities that are beyond what I'm considering right now. I agree with the bit about balanced, consistent effort. After this reading, I have decided to set a minimum of applications per day/week as a sort of KPI. Let's hope it works!

H50 Fire over Wood/Wind
The first thing that strikes me in the answer is that all the moving lines are yang lines at a yin position (2, 4 and 6). Together, these lines form the trigram Heaven which turns into Earth. So something is being broken open here. Something that has too much yang (too focused, too controlling, too...?) turns into openness and exchange.

H50 The Caldron. Into a cauldron go all kinds of ingredients that integrate and transform together to form something new. The ingredients in this case could be the 3 moving yang lines. The text of the Image says: "Thus the superior person consolidates his fate By making his position correct." So there is something that is not right that needs to be adjusted.

The image of H50 is Fire over Wood. Fire burns as long as it has fuel (Wood). What is your fuel? In other words what do you really enjoy doing? Are the jobs you have applied for so far, really the ones you are excited about or are they just ways of making money?

50.2
Wind has to do with your inner blueprint. The forces that shape your mind and body and put your character into your actions, the moving line in the 2nd position makes this too rigid, perhaps too made up out of insecurity of not being good enough. Wind turns into Mountain showing that it is important to put forth your authentic self and not an image you think others want to see.
When only this line changes, you get H56: the hexagram of a traveller passing through an unknown territory and seeking his destination.

50.4
Fire turns into Mountain by the moving line at the 4th position. Too attached to quick changes and results, but can also refer to the idea of having the truth, of already knowing it all. Mountain shows the importance of taking a step back and overseeing the situation, finishing and clearing things up so that something new can be started.
When only this line changes you get H18: the hexagram of fixing things from the past or things that no longer apply.

50.6
Fire turns into Thunder through the moving line at the 6th position. Here, the process initiated in the 4th line leads to renewal (Thunder).

The related hexagram H15 can refer to both the beginning situation and the end situation. The text of the Image says: "Thus the superior person lessens what is too much And increases what is too little. He weighs things and makes their distribution equal."
As an end result, H15 is the one who shows him/herself confident (Mountain) to the mass/group of people (Earth).

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest ;)

Stay true to yourself, apply for jobs that mirror your value system and integrity. It's not about going for the flashy ones here.

I thought I would give people an update, in case someone is interested or gets the same line in the future. About two weeks after this reading, I finally got a job. It was not what I was expecting/aiming for. I was looking for a full-time position, and I got a freelancing part-time job. The funny thing is, that it allowed me to fulfil all my plans for the second quarter of 2023, which involved living temporarily in another city since the job was fully remote. I also got almost the same salary as my previous full-time role.

It was also one of the jobs I put less effort into getting. I normally write a long cover letter for each position I apply to, but I was tired so I just sent my CV and a couple of lines about me. After a very short interview process, I started working!

In hindsight, this reading was definitely about shifting my paradigm (50.2 and 50.6) (full-time to freelance part-time) and finding a job that lets me have a peaceful, anxiety-free life. (50.4).

Well done, congrats for your new job!
It was very helpful to read your post because I am in your same situation, sending lots of CV and continuously receiving 'no'. Your post cheered me up. :)

Thank you Ggraja! Keep going, don't get discouraged, and ask maybe what you can do to improve your chances. And if nothing works... say a prayer to St. Pancras, he's the patron of employment and luck. I also did that the last time and apparently it worked.
