Hi fellow diviners! I threw a hex recently in regards to my boyfriend. My question was "what is the energy surrounding my relationship with J at the moment". We've been dating for 2 months, and all is well so far, just looking for advice from Yi because I get nervous around this time.

My hexagram

57.2 > 53

The resulting 53 (gradual progress) is reassuring. We've been taking things slow and I'm happy to continue with 'gradual progress"

But what the heck is the meaning of hexagram 57 Line 2? I can't make any sense of it:

Nine in the second place means:
Penetration under the bed.
Priests and magicians are used in great number.
Good fortune. No blame.

At times one has to deal with hidden enemies, intangible influences that slink into
dark corners and from this hiding affect people by suggestion. In instances like this,
it is necessary to trace these things back to the most secret recesses, in order to
determine the nature of the influences to be dealt with. This is the task of the
priests; removing the influences is the task of the magicians. The very anonymity
of such plotting requires an especially vigorous and indefatigable effort, but this
is well worth while. For when such elusive influences are brought into the light
and branded, they lose their power over people.

Words that pop out to me: 'hidden enemies" & 'dark corners'. Perhaps this is referring to fears (either mine or his).

Another interpretation I found: "Everything is unsure. When motives are hidden and their outcome cannot be decided, it is not blameworthy to make use of any means of determining what is to come."

Again there is reference to "hiding". I also interpret "penetrating under the bed" as a form of hiding. Are we hiding our true feelings? OUr fears?

Any advice here from the experts?

Hi Openheartsf,

I am no expert but in reading the translation by bradford hatcher I think it is about your own insecurities and doubts. And though there is no harm in asking others for help, in the end you have to look into the dark corners and figure out what those insecurities are and how to overcome them - or at the very least how not to allow them to keep you from having the kind of relationship you want.

Hi Camelot, thanks that helps. This reading makes sense really & seems to paint a picture of the normal dynamics of a relationship in the early stages. The fears of getting hurt if we open ourselves up too much or too quickly. Maybe if I don't expose myself I'll be safe. Who hasn't wanted to hide 'under the bed' rather than be exposed and possibly rejected? because maybe he will not like me if he see's my shadow side. good stuff to think about and as you said, to not allow it to get in the way of a good relationship. thanks!

Openheartsf,

I am new at I Ching - so please do not put too much into my post(s). But everything you said about the things most of us experience at the beginning of a relationship makes perfect sense in regards to the hexagram you received.
Hope all works out for the best :)
