6.5 regarding an invesment

I have been adjusting an investing strategy in the last few months in order to get to the end year in a stable situation regarding it. Can't say the actions I took so far went badly, actually turned out pretty good. Now there are few days left before year's end (it's a cut off date) and I kept on trying to perfect the result, but no matter how many operations I made to get to the perfect goal the situation remained the same. It brought a feeling to me that it has to stay that way.
So I asked the Iching if it was favorable to insist with my course of action and I got 6.5 changing to 64. I am lost for an interpretation, instinctively I feel it's telling me not to insist but I am very uncertain about the changing line and the resulting hex. Any input? Thanks!

I agree. I see 6.5 as indicating that for all your time, money, energy, karma whatever, this is a fair conclusion.
64 says to me now start planning what you'll invest in next.

Thank you for your input. Do you see the changing hexagram strictly related to the same subject matter? Or it can be interpreted also as to focusing on a different thing altogether, the investment has quite drained me of energies and time as you said and I would like to put that question on hold if possible...

You always have to look at what the I Ching says itself before considering commentaries. It says


'Arguing: good fortune from the source.'

So first you are in hexagram 6, in a state of indecision and inner conflict and a sense of banging your head against a brickwall. You described this state in your above post. In the other lines there's generally advice to back down, let things pass or hold to your truth inside yourself. But line 5 is different, it says there is good fortune in arguing and this is a kind of constructive arguing where there is purposeful back and forth, where the decision isn't closed or made already. Hilary explains in wikiwing how this connects to 64 where things are not yet finalised or complete. So it's good to keep things open here and so it is favourable to argue and so it is favourable for you to keep on with the negotiations/offers or whatever it is.

This line is most decidedly not saying 'give up and go home'.

If your instinct is warning you off strongly then follow that, perhaps this is an 'argument' to resume at a later point, though Yi doesn't say that it says to leave this open, leave negotiations open to further discussion which amounts in my view to 'keep on trying, it's not the end'. It's not the end is what 64 says, not time to close things down.

Extevan, you asked if I meant 64 indicated you should start planning your next investment now which seemed like a daunting task given the frustrations of this current one.

I am seeing 64. Before Completion as being a "time-out" period where one pauses, reflects, plans and celebrates before jumping into something new. So while I said I thought you should now be looking to the future I only meant that as meaning you don't need to continue to try to perfect your old investment, not that I thought 64. meant you should be jumping into new things right off the bat. More like 64. is a time for evaluating where you've been and where you'd like to go next - a life review before reincarnating!

As to Trojina's observation that 6.5 - 64 advises that arguing is favorable and on going - agreed! However, in light of your observation that your many adjustments to make change have been unsuccessful and that time is running out I saw these lines as saying in effect, " If you insist on your course of action the arguing could go on indefinitely" - and thus it seemed to me to be saying it was not favorable to continue.

Yeah, stop fussing with it, leave it alone, let things play out for a bit, see where the energies are taking you.

Maybe something like, "It's a good idea to contend with this, not wrong at all, but don't expect to reach a point of sublime perfection"? That probably doesn't exist.

You could consider fiddling with it right up to the deadline, I suppose. You might end up better than you are right now to some degree, or at least you'll know you gave it your best shot which is in line with 6.5 I think.

But I don't think it means drive yourself mad. 6.5's reflecting line (fan yao) 64.5 is about, as Hilary puts it in WikiWing, "radiant confidence."

Maybe keep going as long as you're having good ideas, something like that.
