Hi-
Im considering taking some swift action. I’d like to take it quickly. I asked about doing it. Iching responded with 64.2.3.5

i would normally read this as no, the time is not rt. (Lines 2 slow down and line 3 don’t force an agenda just yet)

but line 5 makes me feel otherwise.

Thoughts?

is there another way to read this sequence? Or perhaps another question that can help me deepen my understanding of when the timing will be appropriate?

si cere thank you for any insight you can offer in advance. I’m a bit stuck emotionally at the moment.

Line 2
'Your wheels dragged back.
Constancy, good fortune.'
Line 3
'Not yet across. Setting out to bring order: pitfall.
Fruitful to cross the great river.'
Line 5
'Constancy, good fortune, no regrets.
A noble one's radiance.
There is truth and confidence, good fortune.'

Hi,
please include the related hex.
It's 50% of the answer.
So far we see that something is unfinished (64). Line 2 & 3 are sort of a 'red light'

Well, you have all the facts about the situation.

Not knowing any of them,
I'd have to say Unfinished Retreat.

Who what or where should be retreated from? The boldness? some person?
You'll have to tell us.

line 2: put on the brakes
line 3: go, but not boldly. (as you indicated a desire to do.)
Line 5: be the change you want to see,
and persist...

there is something of value in what you want to do, but you will have to go about it the right way.

What you’ve written is actually perfect. I inadvertently found myself in a lie. I didn’t know how to correct it at the time and so said nothing. But I hate not being 100% transparent. Had I corrected the mistake in the beginning it wouldn’t have been a big deal. But I was embarrassed so I let the lie persist. Now I want to correct it. I am afraid of the fall out and what I might lose but I feel like my integrity and being truthful is more important. And I accept any consequences that will ensue.

I am not certain how to go about it, just that I need to.

Line 5 shows how,
when you 'fess up' you'll be manifesting the light of example.
(is the retreat from the lie?)
There is dignity in the humility that admits mistakes.

You are making progress,
next you could ask ,,,
Best way to go about this?

Ugggh the answer to: Best way to go about this.

40.2.3–> 62
Line 2 feels very appropriate state the lie clearly, directly. I don’t fully understand line 3... does this mean once I confess let it go inside me too? I’ve never completely understood this line though.
62 relating makes sense.

so simply speak the truth, clear the air in a simple, straightforward way. Move on. Small effort on a small scale, nothing big or elaborate.

Line 2
'In the field, taking three foxes.
Gaining a golden arrow.
Constancy, good fortune.'
Line 3
'Shouldering a burden while also riding in a carriage
Invites the arrival of bandits.
Constancy, shame.'

Hexagram 62, Small Exceeding

I agree the reading says don't deal with it right now. My overall impression is if you're careful, alert, and don't force it, there will be a way to take care of it without getting hurt.

64 can also mean making careful preparations and using "fox sense" to know when to cross. 33 isn't giving up, it's a strategic retreat to keep yourself safe.

Lines can be chronological, where you'll encounter them more or less in order. The one that seems to say yes, 64.5, is the top one and separated from the other two a little. Another way of saying give it time, I think.

More wily foxes in the 2nd reading. This time you catch them. But relating hexagram 62 again says be careful and don't jump the gun. (See the Oracle and the Image.) The two hexagrams might mean "liberation/ relief/ release through being small and cautious."

So watch for the right moment. Another thought is instead of confessing all at once, maybe there will be a way to nudge into it in some very small way that won't expose you, see what happens, and go from there (or not)? I think that would be fox sense and well in keeping with 62.

With everything else in mind I think I'd interpret 40.3 that you'll have a carriage to ride in (some way to carry you out of this in style), so use it. The hard way in this case is not righteous, it'll only invite robbers.
but I feel like my integrity and being truthful is more important. And I accept any consequences that will ensue.
Don't do that, is my guess. I don't see anything in this that says you need to be punished.

So— update. I decided to not rush ahead until I received a clear sign that it was the right time. That sign came in the form of an unexpected txt about an hour after this post. The person said they felt compelled to talk to me. (Out of character)

I made my confession. In a clear and honest way.
They took about an hour to respond. Their response was that the whole scenario was absolutely hilarious and awkward and they could see how I had gotten caught in that lie. I believe line 5 was their response that— I had such a strong record of goodwill, and integrity and kindness that I could be easily forgiven.

whew thank you to all who responded. ❤️

40 can be quick. "Daybreak, good fortune" from the oracle: if there's something to do, do it as soon as you can, but tempered by 62's caution in this one. Release came quickly, but you yourself stayed low to the ground and didn't push things out of anxiousness to get it over with.

Also the description of a thunderstorm in the Image: "Thunder and rain do their work. Release." A thunderstorm is intense but it doesn't last very long.

Also look how 40's Image is about forgiveness. :)

'Thunder and rain do their work. Release.
A noble one pardons transgressions and forgives crimes.'

(Quoting Hilary's translation.)

Asked this question in other places on this forum (re changing lines) but I prefer to pick one changing line that has the most importance. Seems like line 3 was the most relevant to this outcome? If there are 3 changing lines, take the middle as the most pertinent to the situation. Hex 33 was the transformed hex to your original question which doubles the idea of inaction as the best course of action.

That is if course one way to deal with multiple moving line, but that is not the only way, nor necessarily the 'correct' way. As you can see above, sometime did look at all the moving lines, and surfergirl liked the interpretation.

And you can offer your insight as well. D.

If you stick with Yi study,
after a while you will realize that we shouldn't 'pick' a line.
The answer is: hex A + hex B
whether it is a single or multiline reading.
the overall answer is A + B

This question of yours and the conversation around it has come up many times on this forum, read through the archives to see that most of the experienced and insightful users agree on this matter.
