Dear all,

I was asked, a few weeks ago, to do some artwork for a new client. He's someone who could offer me many more jobs as long as he is pleased with this first work we are doing.

I've sent the artwork a few days ago, and he said he liked the result. But I was expecting a little bit more excitement, lol. I also liked it, but this specific job didn't require all my talent, since the project was a little bit too formal.

So then I asked the Yi:

What was the company's reaction about my work?
And I've got 36 Unchanging

What does this person (client) particularly think about a partnership?
And I've got hexagram 5.2 to 63

Hexagram 36 unchanging doesn't seem good to me... but it was interesting to find out what Trojina wrote on this other thread, where she makes a connection between 36 and art making:

"I also saw/felt the beauty of 36uc. What is precious, the light, is still burning bright as ever but no one else knows so there's actually much more intimacy with your own self. I think one is more 'in touch' with one's truest self in 36 than in 35 as in 35 you are often playing up to the audience. For artists I have read that once you start trying to reproduce what has sold or been approved of in the past, once you begin to 'perform' as expected, you actually start to lose your living connection to your muse/source of inspiration."

"I just have an almost kinaesthetic sense of 36 as being very near to the making of art of all kinds. Afterall don't people write better songs when they must hide their brightness and pour out their heartache!"

But in my case it seems that Yi is saying my work wasn't as bright as I wanted it to be... it fell short.

The answer for the second question seems a little bit better: 5.2 to 63 seems to me that there's potential — I only need to wait a little while for him to find out how I could be part of their new projects, how I can fit into the company's needs. Once again, I've found Trojina's take on this line:

"I've noticed this line often shows up when we are getting that feeling of being the topic of someone else's debate which we can't hear. There is quite a distinct feeling that goes with that. Some say their ears burn. My ears don't burn but I get a certain feeling. Do you get that feeling?"

Any other interpretations on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Sartoris

36 isn't a great answer if you are seeking approval for your work. You as the artist keep your light burning at such times. 36 can be the sense of wounding as when put in the shade, the flip side of 35 when you are out and flourishing. I don't think you should take it that your work itself fell short, it's important to nourish your own flame, but maybe it's not's appreciated for what it is. Indeed I'd say 36 is a classic answer for when you're being dismissed in some way. Yi isn't saying your work isn't bright but that it's not being given centre stage/kudos etc in this person's attention which isn't the end of the world. Where you've quoted I said it's when people are in dark times they often do their best work not that the work gets recognised at that point.

Oh of course another angle on the 36uc here is the client is hiding his reaction from you. Perhaps he doesn't want to seem too keen ?

I think 5.2 often crops up when people are making their minds up about you yes. But it's a vulnerable position to be waiting on the sands and we don't know it which way it will go though it does say 'good fortune'.

My sense of these answers is there's a lot of caution around this whole thing and for you it really doesn't feel the best place to be right now. I think you both need more space and time to decide about working together

Two things I get here as I read - Little excitement in his reaction may just mean he's not prone to expressing his emotions but the 36 uc made me feel like he's trying to Wound your Brightness to devalue you in some way.
As Trojina said - 'so he doesn't seem to keen' and you don't put too much $ value on your work.
My reaction could be though, because my boss is trying to devalue you me by trying to wound my brightness!!
