I just have to post this.....

the other day my very elderly father fell off the settee and broke his hip - it is quite serious because of his age and he is in hospital - he is a very unwilling and ungracious patient.

I asked what can I expect for my father ..........
and I used the "online wotsit" (online flash reading) on this site which gives Wilhelm I believe

52.3.6>2

52.3 Keeping his hips still.
Making his sacrum stiff.
Dangerous. The heart suffocates.

I couldn't help but smile - poor Dad - he's protesting loudly but he seems ok for now......

Oh... really sorry to hear this. Two thoughts in response to the lines - see how quickly he can be upright and at least somewhat mobile, and see if there are ways to acknowledge and celebrate his individuality and autonomy (as, let's face it, hospitals really don't).

I did a reading about moving and got 13,
Wilhem/Baynes said this:

"... clarity within and strength without - the character of a peaceful union of (people)..."
This makes me think of this site and Hilary as our leader! :D

Well we all lead ourselves but I thought of onlineclarity when I got this hexagram.

I always have this feeling of having to fulfill something. Just having a good time is not enough. I know that many people have that, maybe even most. It starts early in youth: "you can play outside when you finished your homework". Or even long before that, first sit on that potty before you can sit on grandpa's lap. First eat those awful carrots before you get the chocolate pudding.

I "know" that I have just as much right to have a good time without homework like all animals. I see swallows, dogs, ducks, all doing what they feel like doing, without the slightest need to be useful.

I asked Yi how to get rid of this feeling. 53.2 to 57: The wild geese gradually approach the huge rock. Eat and drink full of joy. Auspicious.

Yeah.. spot on. But I know that since ages and it never helped.

Then I suddenly thought to reverse the old order. "You have to play before you're allowed to make your homework". It is an easy thing to tell myself, they are the same words which trained that little girl to be so useful. And it is a clear order. You cannot fight an order with a reasoning like "all animals play, why not you?"

It works! And I can also see that it makes sense, it is not something silly to say. I agree much more with it than with its reverse, the homework coming before 'living'.

I was having some trouble in bed, and I asked, "How do I let go?" and I got 40.1.2.4.6>27, and set about puzzling through the lines. Then I looked back at the hexagrams next to each other, and saw that it said, literally, Release Jaws. Heh, yeah that's succinct.

Did a weekly reading yesterday, nothing specific but just the week ahead in general. Got 39 unchanging: Difficulties/Limping. Asked about the type of difficulty and got 34.1 "Power in the toes... continuing brings misfortune"

A few hours later I broke my toe! Now I'll be limping for longer than a week...
Note to self: never ignore literal interpretations.

Ow. Really sorry about your toe... and yes, I do agree with your note to self. And another one: do not make silly assertions about how prediction is impossible.

This reminds me of this old tennis reading.

Thanks. I loved the tennis readings! Yi does like to play sometimes. We had some pretty accurate world cup predictions posted here - far more detailed than those of the octopus.

Early this morning, before walking, I inquired of a certain matter, and received 5.6-9. Half way back along the wash were two large mule deer bucks following behind a doe. They casually took to the high hills toward their more familiar grounds when they saw us nearing. Nice encounter.

One falls into the pit. (a wash is a pit or rain runoff)
Three uninvited guests arrive.
Honor them, and in the end there will be good fortune.

This isn't about a reading but a premonition, with a continuance from yesterday's deer incident.

Early this morning, returning home via the wash, at the spot where the deer were, I had a strong feeling of a sparrow struggling to survive in the water bucket, against the back of the house. The birds would drink and Mojo had some outside water, as well as his garage dispenser.

The problem was that small birds fell in on two occasions and drown. To solve this, I floated a piece of 2x4 wood in the bucket, so as the water level went down, a bird could still hop up on the raft, and fly out. Then I tried another method, because the wood would get heavy with algae from the hot sun. I tied a sash of rope across from handle to handle, which would still be reachable as a bridge if the water level dropped.

When we got home, I went to change the water in the bucket as usual. There was a very wet and injured sparrow, that had fallen in and had a rough time making it out to the rope. It hopped onto the ground and over to a patch of greenery, limping, and one wing failing to coordinate, as it head would shake as though something was seriously wrong . I covered it with a large container, leaving space for it to leave if it was able, left and gave Mojo orders to not bother it. About an hour later I went to check on it, and it was gone.

Each of these events have pretty clear symbolic personal meanings to me, which are related through feeling more than reason. I felt panic at the wash of a drowning bird, and a bird was indeed drowning. Was this also the second visitation of messengers? They could be summed up in the three deer, or that could have been the first visitor. The second being the bird. Maybe tomorrow a third arrives to honor.

This morning, after pouring yesterday's water onto Charly's agave home, the third visitor appeared from out of it. Charly and Matilda's first baby sighting. Including his tail, he's about 2" long. Itty bitty feller, and not the least bit shy of me, just like his daddy.

The first time I remember this happening to me was in 2001, and I was inquiring as to a situation of dating two different men, both of whom I really liked. I asked what would be the best way for me to proceed, and I received 41.3, first consulting Karcher's "Elements of the I Ching" i read: "When three people move together they will be diminished by one." I followed the advice of "diminishing my involvement" by not seeking to decide or move for commitment with either one, and sure enough, one of them started acting out and creating distance, and the other one was understanding and creating opportunities to enjoy time together, so the decision was made "by itself". There are more examples I will try to post later. btw, I am really enjoying reading and reflecting on the discussions in this community, and this is my first post. :)

Talk about direct!

I have been considering joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm, wherein one pays a substantial sum in advance and then receives a share of whatever food is grown though out the course of the year. It is risky as your investment is lost if the weather or farming conditions are poor. I am currently paying tuition for two college students and need to steward my money wisely yet I am drawn to the concept of sustainable family farming. It felt a little silly to bring such a question to a reading but I had no clear guidance and needed to make a decision today.

My question: What do I need to know about joining the CSA?
Reading:
26 lines 2 and 3 changing with 27 relating

I was astounded by the direct reference to nourishment, farming and moving out of my comfort zone - which will indeed happen by joining a CSA as one is required to do some volunteer work. Spot on. I am new to this but the implications appear to be positive.

And yes, I am sending in my check forthwith.

Hello! I'm new here in Forum, but I'm always reading the "Shared readings" ! I have a long "relationship" with IC, and a lot of experiences, but the most recently one, was that I was trying to decide were to travel: to a beach, here in Brasil or to Argentina. So I asked to IC, and the awnser was: hex 56-5..."The Wanderer" that speaks about a person in a "Foreign Country" and make friends if he knows how to deal with that..AHA...rs
So...I had a wonderfull and special time in Argentina, with my kids and we made good friends there!

Sorry about my ingles!!
and I'm glad to be here!

I was watching a Greek movie the other day and some characters used a whistled language to communicate in distance ('calling in shade'?). Turns out this was used largely during the German occupation to notify those who had fled to the mountains to fight. When I googled it I found that a similar 'language' is also used in other places and in one of the Canary(!) islands they promote its learning as part of their heritage. Here's a couple of clips I found:

. . part of the script of "Bottle Shock" a movie about how Californian wines defeated the notorious French ones in a blind-taste competition in France:

(two of the characters walk through the vineyard in Napa while one explains about the soil):

-It's alluvial, sedimentary, volcanic soil.

-Dry.

-Right.You want to limit the irrigation cause it makes the vines struggle . . . intensifies the flavor.
A comfortable grape, a well-watered, well-fertilized grape . . . it grows into a lazy ingredient of a lousy wine.

So, from hardship comes enlightenment.

For a grape.

from wikipedia:
The history of Chinese grape wine has been dated back more than 4,600 years

hmmm, 47 maybe? . . .

Quite a few years ago (late fall 1994) I was scheduled to be an instructor taking a group of students from the US to England for a theater tour over Christmas week. Quite late in the process, I realized that my passport had been wholly lost. I applied for a new one and waited, and waited, and waited.... The morning we were scheduled to fly out, I still had no passport in hand, and was absolutely sh*tting myself and calling everyone I could think of to call and trying to sort out the ramifications and alternatives... I consulted the IC. I don't recall the exact reading, but the message was to simply go about my business as if everything was in order. So I packed my bags, the mailman arrived and brought me the passport, and I went to London. And though I have been mightily confused by The Sage many times since then, I have never doubted it.

8.3 seeking union with non-people means the subject is drunk and/or high on something. This line was confusing to me today I have seen it in action.

Just a small sharing here...

I've been involved in a slightly unnerving affair with someone for the past few months. A few days ago I felt as though I'd finally given up on her and lost all hope for a relationship. Although the idea was depressing, it was a bit liberating, but...

Tonight I gave in and consulted the I Ching. I asked, "Should I let her go?"

31.2.5 > 32.

This thing scares me sometimes.

8.3.

I sent an email about the recent eclipse to a friend saying i thought they might be interested because it was happening right on their birthday.

I then asked the I Ching what the eclipse would mean for them. I received

8.3.
You hold together with the wrong people.

A few minutes later I got an email back from someone else entirely saying it was not their birthday that day.
Seems i had hit the wrong button and sent the message to the "wrong" person.

Well, now i know what 8.3 means!

yes i've had 8.3 for simply being in wrong group meeting wrong time ! Yi can be very literal and 8.3 is not always a dire warning of being with the wrong people as in 'bad' people....

I ordered some things from Amazon.com and was disappointed to discover I had not hit the "free shipping" button. I tried sending them an email asking that I be given the discount but there were messages all over the page saying, "You cannot change your order!"
Wanting some comfort I asked the I Ching how i should think about this incident. I received 51.3 > 55.

51.3
Shock comes and makes one distraught.
(yeah, ya got that right.)

If it spurs one to action
One remains free of misfortune.
(I figured this was the I Ching saying, "Well you tried so that was a good thing..)

55.
Be not sad.
Be like the sun at midday.

The superior man decides lawsuits
And carries out punishments.

Well, I was feeling kinda annoyed with the I Ching as it seemed to be telling me I ought to just decide to be happy - easier said than done. THEN I checked my email and it seems i had gotten a notification from Amazon that they were adjusting my order and i was not going to be charged!!!! Yippee!

Wow, the I Ching told me something completely contrary to what I believed was going to happen and it was absolutely right.

From this i have come to believe 55. may be a positive omen for a judgement going in one's favor. Also, I'm seeing "Superior man" may not necessarily be refering to one's superior self, but actually someone else in the situation who may be your "superior", someone who has more power in the situation as in this case where it was a superior man outside of myself who had the power to decide my suit.

hello, new here but couldn't resist, I have had so many of these actually but this one has soem humour in it

Lately I have been behaving very out of character in my personal life and have felt a very distinct war between two sides of my personality

so I asked

what is the realist trying to achieve:
60.1.3 > 48
damage control

what is the idealist/romantic trying achieve:

42 unchanging
.... more! ;)

then I asked what will the spoils of this war be:

40.4 > 7

aha! ... or... uh oh

Yi and a lost brochure

Some days ago, during our evening call, my mother told me that she'd lost a thing, a brochure of a museum she wanted to use at school with her pupils. She had it some days before and couldn't remember when she'd lost trace of it. We live in different and very distant towns.
I proposed to consult the Yijing for her to find the lost object. I wanted to experiment with my new dice (the method that uses two 8-sided dice for finding the trigrams and one "regular" 6-sided die to choose exactly 1 moving line, a very fit method for material readings as such), so I decided to throw the dice myself while imagining myself at home, in a precise position, asking where was the brochure.

Yi said 9.4>1.

I started to look at the trigrams and suddenly realized that the brochure was represented by Li (the documents). The other trigrams were Xun, Dui and finally Qian, repeated 5 times. Li and Dui were nuclear, Xun had the changing line so it represented the destiny and was also changing to Qian. This could indicate the SE-NW axis (on the Later Heaven), presumably pointing towards NW, because of the presence of so many Qian's. One of the Qian's, the one originated by Li through its moving line, should correspond to some other characteristic of the brochure, I think it was its color (it's mainly printed in black and dark red).
I gave my mother a number of indications but no one proved helpful. NW of the point where I had "projected" myself there's a wall dividing two rooms, but the brochure couldn't be found along it. I pointed her to a jewel box (Dui is the metal and the ornaments) on a chest of drawers in my parents' bedroom, where she usually puts documents she is reading, but nothing. We also tried a couple more places, without results.
All I was able to say was that:
  • the brochure wasn't closed into a drawer, nor in any other closed space, but in the open (as suggested by the many yang - bright - lines)
  • it wasn't on the floor, but at mid-height (as indicated by being on the the 4th level)
  • it should be beneath something made of wood or paper (Xun), and laying on something metallic (Dui)
  • anyway she shouldn't worry, she would find it eventually: I told her not to think about it anymore and be confident, as the moving line text suggested.

Yesterday she told me she had found it. It was in a different room, into a paper box containing the cards we use for Christmas greetings (the box is open on the top, it lacks a cover). The box itself was on a shelf hanging at mid-height from a wall, in the open. Suddenly I realised that the NW direction I had obtained was in fact... the direction from here to my family's town! So, my "projection" didn't work, but everything else matches in an amazing way.
First of all, the hexagram titles, which I was unable to make sense of before. "Small accumulating", and it was into a box full of many small things; Qian, the Father, and it was in a small room used almost exclusively by my father as his study. I didn't even think of that possibility.
Then, the materials, of course. In a paper box, under paper cards (Xun), on a wooden shelf, but supported by metal props (Dui).
Last, the text of line 9.4: "There is truth and confidence. Blood departs, fear goes away. No mistake." She couldn't find it as long as she was worried about that, but when she became confident, she had an intuition and looked again into that box, where she had already searched. And also the text of line 1.4, the target line: "Someone dancing in the abyss. No mistake", literally showing someone suspended at mid-height into a gorge (in fact the box was even sticking out of the shelf some inches)...

I've had some trouble at work. And I was torn between waiting on what might happen or take legal action.
I was leaning towards the lateral.
But the IC's advise was to wait and see what would happen.
I took it's advise and it turned out to be the best thing to do.
IC was right, again!

Today I said: "Thank you for all the great advice I've received from you. I don't know how I would have managed to get on without that help. It would have been a lot harder for me to deal with everything.

It's answer 14.5>1

That answer felt like a warm hug.

I was taking a well deserved citytrip abroad. Before I left I asked: what should I know about this trip? I got 5.1.2>39
My train was delayed for 40 minutes and then just before arriving, it stood still outside the city, which made me miss my other connection and delayed me another 2 hours!
